You should be more specific. There is no such thing as a "dms matrix infinity". Those are two different brands. DMS have made several different mod-chips, and so have the Matrix team. However, as far as I know none of those chips have the capability of booting directly from USB.
The DMS4pro can boot an ELF file from internal flash memory of the mod-chip though, and both the Matrix Infinity and several different DMS chips can boot ELF files from a PS2 memory card. And once you have some homebrew ELF running (like uLaunchELF), you can easily use this to start any other ELFs you may need, including USBAdvance (to run games off USB HDD).
But you might find it a problem copying stuff to the memory card to begin with as your lens is damaged, preventing you from booting any homebrew programs, even with a mod-chip installed... Hopefully you can get some friend with an intact PS2 to help you with that copying.
What you need to do is to create a folder on the primary PS2 memory card named "BOOT", and in that folder you need to place the elf to be booted, and it must then be named "BOOT.ELF". In other words, you need to copy that program to "mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF", and then either the Matrix Infinity or most DMS chips will be able to start that ELF by pressing a specific button at boot time (usually Triangle or R1, but check your mod-chip docs for such details).
The ELF I'd recommend installing is also the same one I'd use to perform such copying, and that is uLaunchELF v4.12, available in its separate subforum on this site (inside the main forum "PS2 Homebrew/Dev & Emu Scene"). First you need to make a boot disc (for an intact PS2 that is) to get this program launched and then you can use it to copy the necessary stuff to your own PS2 MC.

I would like to know if anyone has been successful in running games from a USB flash drive as opposed to a HDD. I know that it was probably not designed to do this but this is what my results have been.
I formatted (FAT 32) the flash device that I already know is compatible with every other homebrew I have tried. I copied all the files from the HDD in the USB enclosure to the flash device (hidden files turned off in windows). I booted the USB extreme .elf from the PS2 internal HDD. Plugged in the flash device to the PS2 USB slot. The game showed in the games list! Unfortunately the game wouldn't boot, it blackscreened.
I would have tried to get the USB insane tool to install directly to the flash device, but it doesn't let me select the flash device.
Any feedback is appreciated.

I had success with at least one game, didn't try many, though.

It never was available, and most likely never will be. It was a commercial project, hijacked both by homebrewers and later also by a competing commercial group. The guys who have the real source are not friends of us, but rather the opposite, so they will never share the source IMO.
The original hijackers might have something, but I believe they worked mostly from partial disassemblies. Not really something suitable for continuing the project, if you were thinking of that.

Ok i found the issue, it was my modchip itself. I think it went to ps2 mode rather than turning off....

I have :
1/ a slim ps2 scph77004
2/ no memory card
3/ 2.5" usb HDD
4/ USBAdvance CD
tried : Soul Calibur 2, Splinter Cell 4, POP 2, GOW2, Resident Evil 3 & 4...
none worked..
USBAdvance loads, detects usb HDD(led activity+), shows the game list and when selecting a game it shows "loading game, please wait" and nothing... even the HDD led doesn't go red (no reading...)
Another things: is there a way to save games without the need to have a memory card, directly on a usb drive, hdd... (software or hardware solution...)

If your have a modded ps2,
Try booting your pstwo with modchip disabled,
Almost all modchip have a disabled mode method when booting,
Try to find out which mochip is installed on your ps2.

Has anyone here manage to use a cheat device with usb advance?
I've used codebreaker 9, ar max evo, swapmagic 3.8.... none of those would work.
however, i do have some method of cheating using asm type raw codes in usb advance,
it involves injecting the codes directly to the game's elf files.
The bad side of using this method is, the codes are always active and joker type codes are not applicable using this method.
So, if anyone here have successfully used a cheat device with usb advance,
please tell me how you do it.
