Simple Instructions Needed: Exploit to FMCB to Memcard
Okay, that's all I need. I have the PS2 with Independence Exploit installed. I need to go from that to the FMCB exploit via a pendrive formatted to FAT32. Most people seem to still be using Swap Magic and other things not available where I am and even the tutorials on Youtube don't go into this. Can anyone help me? I can always transfer the Independence Exploit to another Fat PS2 just by copying the MC card data to another card (I have a 2nd copy of the boot disc I use) but this new method is much simpler once it is installed.
Thanks in advance.
PS Yes, I did a lot of reading. Some of it is complicated by the fact that many writers fall into the same trap as some very experienced engineers I know...they love their craft so much they get too technical when they explain something. Simple and concise my old profs used to say....

First thing we need to know is what region your PS2 is from, as that will affect how you install it.

Another thing we definitely must know is what BOOT.ELF program he uses with the exploit.
If that BOOT.ELF is in fact uLaunchELF then the FMCB installation will be super-simple, but if he has some HDLoader version as BOOT.ELF it will take a little more work, and the same applies to most other potential BOOT.ELF files too.

Okay, the boot disc is "Crash Team Racing". The machine is an original NTSC PS2 v1 bought the first day it was released. I hardly ever used it so it's in pretty good shape. I have the network adapter and a 30 Gig HDD installed but I had originally done the exploit just to prove to myself I could do it rather than play a lot of games. In a way that's what I'm up to again...to prove to myself I can do this. I'll check what programs are loaded onto the MC shortly. I have to go out for awhile. Again, thanks for your most gracious help.

Okay, launcher is HDLoader. Files on the MC are:
HDL48_07C
HDL48_07C_MDMA8
MCMGR-C
HDLD_SVR
I should probably use the latest launcher but I would have no way of getting it onto the MC as there is no one here anymore I know of who uses a PS2 chipped or otherwise. That was how I got the MC done for this unit years ago...it went through a friend with a chipped PS2.
Thanks again...

You can easily use a uLaunchELF ISO and install it like a PS2 game, then run it with HDL.
From there, you should be able to install Free McBoot onto a second MC, to preserve the PS1 Exploit until your sure you dont need it anymore. Since its your only booting method, i would not delete it until your 100% sure Free McBoot works on the other MC.

Yes, I think I get it now. I make (or find) uLaunchELF ISO and using winhiip I transfer it to the PS/2 HDD. I then copy FMCB files to the pendrive. After reinstalling the HDD and running the exploit, I should be able to run uLaunchELF and from there, run McBoot installer from the pendrive which will install the necessary files to a 2nd Memory Card. I will have to try this out tomorrow.

I just want to thank you guys. This worked first time right out of the gate, however, I used the old 3.41 version of the launcher since the 4.28 from the CD-ISO that was posted didn't work. I thought of trying the DVD version but then settled on the one that was already on the memory card with the Independence Exploit. I made 2 versions just for testing purposes, one normal, the other multi-system. The old version software recognized the MCboot elf on the pendrive and everything ran perfectly.
Next to figure out the ESR section....

I assume you mean 'LaunchELF v3.41' which is quite ancient and obsolete. I understand why you used it to get started via HDLoader, but I strongly recommend that you replace the BOOT.ELF installed for FMCB with a modern version of uLaunchELF (aka: uLE) instead (currently at v4.30).
The reason why the v4.28 uLE ISO did not boot in HDLoader is probably because HDLoader doesn't like its IOP reset. I never tried it myself in HDLoader, and I guess I'll have to do that for future releases, possibly adding a CNF file to prevent the IOP reset (if that was the problem).
