The CodeBreaker version you're using is not what can make ESR work with it.
The important thing, without which it will never work, is that you have patched your CodeBreaker elf file with one of the patch programs that ffgriever created for that purpose.

Then you need to store a renamed copy of the ESR elf file in one of the paths where the patched CodeBreaker will load it. And my preferred location for that is "mc0:/BOOT/CB_launch.elf".

Most likely you are using an unpatched CodeBreaker elf, for whom that behaviour is perfectly normal, since they require an original disc in the disc tray at 'Start Game' command.

Like I said above:

1: Make sure you have a properly patched copy of CodeBreaker.
2: Store a copy of the 'dvdv direct' variant of ESR as "mc0:/BOOT/CB_launch.elf".
