FMCB Installer Boot Tutorials
I'm releasing these tutorials AS IS, NO WARRANTY! You screw the pooch, please don't complain to me as I've tested each of these methods (except the AR Max one) and they are confirmed to work.
Official FMCB sites
 - Free McBoot Home (psx-scene)
 - Free McBoot Home(sksapps)
 - Free McBoot Home (JNABK)
Free McBoot - Finland
Please keep from other topics in this thread as it is only for FMCB install problems only. I don't want to read about "Can I play backups in with this?" or "Does this exploit make my butt look too big?"
Install issues are preferred to be posted in this thread. Enjoy.
Edit - Please host any translations on your own server of the tutorials. I will be discontinuing hosting of the trasnations soon.
I ask that metagames-eu host the french versions, and ps3tools.de host the german versions.
Edit - Uploaded JNABK's new redesign of the tutorials. Much appreciation on the great effort he's put into these tutorials.

@Bootlegninja:
The 'Title' of your first post, and thus the name of this thread, still refers to v1.2+ of FMCB, even though the page at sksapps says that the tutorials are based on FMCB 1.5.
I think you should edit the post/thread title, to ensure that people looking for info on FMCB 1.5 will find your tutorials.

I'm translating to dutch, I finished the swap-magic 1 (it's the shortest)
i'll include the rest later on
[EDIT]
ARMAX version is finished 2, but the foto's aren't included, I left the foto links instead, cause of the size limit on psx-scene.com

if preferred, I can translate the others into HTML directly, if you can send me a template or whatsoever (I can use the original page too, so u won't have to set them to html..

@ _ZedHqX4_ - Thanks! Added and credited
@ PALGamer - There's no real template. If you want you can place them directly on HTML. Just as long as I have a marker for an image placement, I'm good to go.

I've translated the Swapmagic and AR tutorial into german since Codebreaker never been released her in Germany. They're in html and I hope the Ümlauts are shown correctly (it's UTF-8 encoding). Looking forward to an Indipendent Exploit tutorial and an overall FreeMCBoot-noob-tutorial...

U think a french tutorial can be usefull.
I know that some guys at meta-games like to take our tuto and put a french version there.
If u can send me the file.htm (english) of the tuto. i look at it when i have some free time.

slicer, just open the tutorial you want to save, then right-click and 'save page as' html and it will copy the whole page in html to your PC.

Just remember to mention this is still in BETA form and is not a final version of what will be a stable release.

I red somewhere that with Xploder V5 cheat system + X-link cable thats provided with Xploder can also copy the exploit.
No Xploder users here that got FMCB to work with it? Because the only thing i can find in the stores here is Xploder V5.

I'm sorry for being a total noob but I couldn't figure out from this thread (and the tutorials) if there is a way for an owner of a chipped PS2 to install FMCB to a memory stick without additional hardware/purchases.
Again sorry for my noobness but I only just got into the PS2 (softmod) scene.

@ Bootleg:
Could you amend the ARMax tut to say that if you simply put Free McBoot.elf on the root of the pendrive and run the media player it will boot and run the installer. Then say if free McBoot.elf wont show up to follow the SwapMagic part.
Seems either my version of ARMAX or my PenDrive wouldnt allow free McBoot.elf to show in the list no matter what i named it, so thats why SwapMagic is in the tutorial, as thats how i got past the free McBoot.elf not showing up.

That depends on the type of chip you have. Some chips (including my DMS4proSE) need to be disabled in order for the FMCB installation to work, and then the success may vary depending on how that disabling is done. And of course, you do need another way of booting homebrew in order to launch the FMCB installer with disabled chip. One way of doing this is to use the old 'independence' exploit which is easy to install using a chipped console, but this only works on old 'fat' PS2 consoles, not on the new 'slim' PStwo models.
On the 'slim' PStwo models you probably need some commercial tool (ARMax, SwapMagic, etc) to launch the FMCB installer with disabled modchip.

Thanks dlanor for the explanation.
I got a Modbo 735 in my Slim PS2, feature list here:
http://www.modbo2.com/modbo%20735.html
So how do I figure out if I can install FMCB with my modchip turned on? Just get a new memcard and try?
I need to order the memcard anyways so it would be nice to know if I need a ARMax or SwapMagic. If I understood you correctly I could also use any modded Phat PS2 to get me started?
Thanks again, Zak

Well, the only sure alternative is to find and ask someone else with the same chip and PStwo model you have.

I know (from other posters) that those can do the job, but I'm not sure if you really need them.

Well, almost. It should be of the same region as your target console, where you'll later be using FMCB, and it should have a chip of a type that either does not interfere with the FMCB install when active, or which can be totally disabled (like the DMS4proSE I used for my install). Then it is simple to prepare (with chip active) a boot setup using the old independence exploit for a PS1 trigger disc, and then boot uLE with that setup (with chip disabled) and use it to launch the FMCB installer.
Best regards: dlanor
