YDL Install help, total n00b

Hi guys,

As the title suggests, I'm a total n00b at linux. However, I'm trying very hard to learn.... or at least, will be trying very hard once I get the thing installed.

At any rate, I've got the YDL image, the install guide, the otheros files, and a larger HD. Now I'm trying to install.

After I xfer bootloader and the bootloader installer, I'm told to set the default boot to otherOS. I do so. Then I am told to power on the PS3 and insert the YDL DVD. I do.

Then the installation instructions tell me that I am supposed to cycle through 'install' 'installtext' 'rescue' and 'rescuetext'

That never happens. Instead I am told 'loading gelic_net driver...' and I get a screen telling me that it wants to test the CD. It fails the CD test b/c it can't read the checksum. Then the PS3 spits the DVD back out.

If I choose to skip the test, I get the message at the bottom 'Running anaconda, the YDL system installer - please wait...' with the 'loading gelic_net driver...' in the center of the screen. And then nothing. It sits there doing nothing. I've waited a while to give it a chance... am I not waiting long enough? Should I try to get a better quality image? Could it have something to do with the media check failure?

Help.

Thanks

when it asked me to test the media before installation i said no. i don't really remeber what happend after that though. it did take a really, really long time though

follow this guide:
(sorry apparently you can't post links untill after you made 15 post. just google "Tek Jansen's Explosive Gaming Experience" and it should be right at the top)

i used it and my installation when fine. if you still can't get it working maybe there was a problem burning the image...?

Which release are you using Nov. or Dec. . If you have the newest one than I would use that one.(there is errors in the Nov. release)
What kind of media did you use, what did you use to burn it and what speed was it burnt at?
Installing YDL was as easy as installing sh*ty Windows. It does take about two hours to install though.
On your question about the cycling through using the tab for the different install options, it does you probably don't realize it but when you see kboot_ after the boot loader starts thats when you hit tab but if you do nothing it times out after about 6-10 seconds and will by default install(gui not text).

If you haven't created a normal user, use "root" as user name and the password you registered. If you don't recall the "root" password, you can start the distribution in single user mode, at boot loader (LILO or Grub) you have the option to change the default "init" program, i.e. using something like "init=/bin/sh". I suggest you to create a normal user, "man adduser" for the details...
