newbie to modchipping need advice/help

right I live in the UK and own a v12 PS2 Slim and well i want to install a modchip i have been looking around and i dont know what one to get as its rather ard to get hold of them in the uk. Also i will need like a guide to how to install it ican solder thats about it i dunno what wiere is needed what solder ect ect i only see diagrams thats it no other info soooo can anyone give me some advice and help..
i have been looking at a modbo 4.0 or a Matrix Infitinty
where is a good place to buy mod chips for the uk or a site where i can get it shipped to the uk

if you want a simple, inexpensive chip, go for the modbo 4.0. a genuine matrix is a bit high on price since there's no more new firmware coming out for it.

As for where to get one with shipping to the UK, dunno. I'm in the US, so I'm not sure on that one. best I can say is google it and try some different keywords.

the same ones the genuine matrix chip would use. Mind you that the modbo chips are matrix clones.

Well, considering that the ML4 and other have been out of production for a long time, now, I assumed that you had done a bit of research on chips and figured that you knew that the infinity was the only 'in production' chip from matrix.

dunno about the shipping tho but i can pay with paypal its about £5 or $10 for the chip its self. is this the right one or is there differnt versions of the chip...

right what else do i need to buy to install this chip wires? solder ect?

15 Watt soldering iron
smallest tip possible for the iron and grind it down to a fine point
good quality solder
desolder braid
flux
a steady hand
30AWG solid core kynar wire for all points except power and ground
24AWG wire for power and ground

i can get the chip and shipped to the uk for $16.50 wich in pounds is about £8.25 which i feel is good

okky i shall order it 2moz then

just gonna read up about the chip itself and try find some guides... tbh im only getting a chip becasue i got a backup of metal gear solid 1 the other day and used the block sensor swap trick and got to the bit where u havbe to put in disk 2 and well mr ps2 didnt like it i wasnt happy soo im getting a chip .. i take it i will have to unblock 1 of my sensors to get it back to old working order...

also as i have a v12 ps2 is it worth me getting that laser fix thingy ?

right i have ordere my modbo 4.0 2night does anyone know if any installation guides exist ? and will i have to unblock 1 of sensors? and as i have v12 shall i get the laser fix and is it hard to install??????????? im going to start collecting the tools ect and pratise soldering

you need to unblock all of the sensors, yes you will need a laser fix for a v12, and no, it shoudn't be hard to install.

well one of my sensors is kinda broke the one in bottom right the little switch sometimes stays in and ive taken out the 2nd sensor i think it should be ok if in unblock the 3rd sensor what you reacon?

where is a good place to buy the diode fix

Not sure on the sensor since I don't own a slim, but you'll want to check a local electronics supply store. (Radioshack if you have one there, if not something that sells soldering equipment will have it.)

well in the UK we have rs and maplin which are big electronic retailers and they dont sell the wire needed. but i can gte 30AWG wire sent with my modbo i was wondering if i could use it for all the wiring ?

also with the sensors ive tested it i ublocked the 3rd sensor and the game wont spin with the lid open so i think its ok

well, on my v7, I used old USB cable lying around, so I separated it and used that as a substitute for the 24AWG. Chip still works like a champ, and it's been in since late august 06
