yeah usb cable is fine for the thicker ones (power and ground), definately use 30 guage or finer for the rest though, it makes it so much easier!

as for where to start, look at the diagram and find a place to mount the chip that is going to let you make the majority of the wires as short as possible.

tin the pads on the chip, tin the points on the board and start wiring it up!

4m of 30AWG
Solder
Soldering iron ( the tip is about 2mm but i made it into a point)
got a broken usb keyboard which i shall dismantel for the 3.v and ground

im getting desolder braid and a solder sucker as soon as i can

when you say tin the pads what do you mean by that?

i have attached a pic of where im thinking of placing the chip. also can i use a little glue from a glue gun to hold it in place

That diagram seems to be the same as the v12 one i have.

When i said tin the pads, heat them up and quickly add a little bit of solder to each and then do the same for the wires.

Put some electrical tape/insulation tape over the bottom of the chip and then hot glue it in place. try not to get the hot glue on top of any small components (resistors/capacitors or wahtever) because if you need to move the chip, they can sometimes come off when you pull the glue off.

As for where you put the chip, that looks fine.

Cut one wire at a time, i generally hold a length of cable between the two points where it has to be soldered and cut it about 5mm longer than it has to be.

If you are using kynar wire, put a little solder on your iron tip and hold it on one end of the wire. the plastic insulation will start to shrink back exposing the wire a little bit. try not to expose more than about 1mm of wire unless you need to. repeat this for the other end of the wire.

tin the wire ends, hold it in place and apply heat to the wire and the pad (at the same time), also if possible, add a little solder to the join to strengthen it.

try not to add too much solder because it makes it easier to bridge connections together.

give the wire a few light tugs to make sure it is a good join then proceed to solder the other end of it.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else!

lol got back and started having a look at the points which needs soldering and 1 is smaller then 1mm sooo i need a smaller soldering tip im gonna file the tip down to a nice small point and this should help...

anyone got a little advice for doing those tiny soldering points. i have a magnifying glass but it still seems really hard

edit:

the SX point seems the smallest to do im thinking of putting somthing around it sooo it makes it eaiser and solder doesnt end up goin everywhere

double the wire 30SWG

Just double your wire NO 30SWG and use it as 24SWG. It will pass the current divided by 2.
