Fmcb help

i dont know where to post this.

all i am tring to do is run hdloader from the Memory card.
i used http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials...nstalling.html cd-r method with my modded ps2 to install FMCB and then all seemed well untill i put the MC in on another ps2 , then just the ps3 just booted like normal so i wnet to the browser menu and all i see is the files there like save files.
a free mc boot icon
a sys-conf icon
and a boot icon

when making the cd-r i used the already made config text (found here http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials...guide.html)and pasted it to the FMCB_CFG folder. and so i tried to push 0 button after installing FMCB but it says config not found

please help, oh and one more question.
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials...nstalling.html
it says " Its not recommended to use Free McBoot with a Modchip, unless you know it can be disabled 100%. The CC 2.0 SLE doesnt fully disable and will result in a black screen if you attempt to use Free McBoot ."
so i did not try FMCB on the modded ps2 i used to install FMCB. although i read others who have and nothing went wrong with the ps2.

thank you.

Im guessing the installer isnt copying the apps you placed in the INSTALL folder, or you didnt place any in there. If you didnt put any apps in the INSTALL folder, then there is nothing to be booted by the Free McBoot Launcher.

As for the Configurator app {pressing O after install}, it might just be the disc isnt being read correctly and didnt get installed. This would also explain why no apps were copied from the INSTALL folder if you did in fact put some files in there as instructed by the Install Guide.

That 'ready made' CNF in the guide is the exact same as the default, so unless you changed it, the installer would have installed one anyway. Thats in the Guide so you can edit it without using the Configurator app, also stated in the Guide.

Not all modchips interfere with the boot process of Free McBoot when used with them, but there are many that do, so i added in that little warning as" its not recommended", just to avoid people not understanding when something doesnt work when they try out Free McBoot on the very same console as the chip is on.

If your using the Free McBoot MC on a different version console, you might need to install it using the Multi-Version {also explained in the Guide}

And Lastly, you can still use the Free McBoot MC by using a USB stick and putting uLaunchelf renamed to RESCUE.ELF and manually copy any missing files to the locations they belong, as the Guide also explains.

I took great care to do my best to explain how to use Free McBoot in the Guide, which you mentioned you did read. But i think you missed a lot, or didnt understand what they meant.

A Request:
I wish to make the Guide as informative as possible, so if theres some things that dont make sense or explain enough, please let me know and i will try updating it with better explainations. I appreciate any input that can make the Guide better.

PS2

thank you very much for your reply
i did use square button to install multi, as i have 7 ps2`s and only 3 are modded, i just bought 2 more from ebay , cuz i really like hdloader. i plan on playing them till i`m 100yrs old. anyway , i did kinda read through your tut and i did not understand it all cuz i am a lamer when it comes to stuff like that, as i could never even get an app to boot ps2 games while swaping with a ps1 game from a long time ago, i forgot the app name, i tried for like a month on that one.lol.

can i reinstall by just deleting everything from the memory card using the system config delete option in the ps2 browser memory card window?
maybe i will not copy and paste the sys config.cnf stuff to the FMCB_CFG folder and let the app do it manually..

here is a picture of how my cd-r looks inside the install folder. in the root of the cd-r is just the FREE_MCBOOT.ELF file.
btw... i am not using any inject or dvdelf stuff , i dont care about the space as i have like 10 memcards and one is 32 mb.
oh and i was just reading another guys post and here said he receives the custom boot screen and goes straight to browser. i forgot to say that happened to me as well. sorry. i was all stoked till it just went to the browser.
on you tut i did not follow anything after making my own .cnf file cuz i thought it only concerned the dvdelf, inject stuff. and screen alignment stuff, i though was alredy fixed in the .cnf file i pasted to the FMCB_CFG folder.
Thank you again.

I think the problem is with the installer not copying the files from the disc, i thought it had for me, but after looking again, i realized i had a USB stick in the console and it was displaying from that and not on the MC as i originally believed.

I can only say at this point to get a USB stick and put a RESCUE.ELF on it and Free McBoot should run it. You can use uLaunchelf and rename it to RESCUE.ELF.

Then you can copy any files not copied, like the HDLOADER.ELF right to the BOOT folder on the MC.

Next, restart the console without the USB {or it will just load the RESCUE.ELF again} and see if HD Loader is now in the Sony main menu.

You dont need to worry about the CNF if you dont intend to edit it, the installer creates a default one, exactly like the Guide has.

You can try to start your modchip in "ps1-mode". Thought it was holding reset for 3seconds,...
If it won't work, you maybe won't have any USB-Drivers on MC.

Thats most likely the cause, the chip. If Free McBoot installed and you have a USB stick with a RESCUE.ELF and it doesnt work, then its 1 of 2 things: an incompatible USB stick or the modchip. I'd lean more towards the chip as the cause.

how do i start HDLoader? i tried to push L1 and R1, all i see on start of the ps2 is sms, esr,FMCB config, ulaunch,ps2link & browser

First off let me say that there is no application named "ulaunch".
You probably meant "uLaunchELF", but the 'standard' abbreviation of that name is uLE.

For general file copying needs the standard tool is uLE (same as mentioned above), where you use its "FileBrowser" command (preconfigured to a launch key) to enter a browser that allows you to 'Copy'+'Paste' files and folders between different directories on various PS2 media (CDVD, USB, MC, LAN (networked PC))

However, you can not copy the FMCB boot program (in "B?EXEC-SYSTEM" folder) to another card and expect it to work there, since the file is 'signed' by the unique MC ID of the MC it resides on. This is required in order for the PS2 to boot it. So each card needs to be installed separately. But once you have the first MC set up as you like it, you can prepare your own FMCB installer package on a USB stick, as described in FMCB docs.

Another reason not to attempt copying the "B?EXEC-SYSTEM" folder is that for a "Multi-Install" (one that works on all models in the same region), that folder will increase in size when copied, by a factor of 22x !!! That is because the folder has 22 different file names in the directory, though all of them use the same physical file sectors. But when copying those 'pseudo' files, new sectors are allocated for each of them, thus increasing the storage space consumption.

Quote:

If the OSDSYS menu list you describe below is complete, then you don't have HDL on that menu, and might not have it in the MC at all. But that is not conclusive from your report. It could very well be on the card but not in the menu, though a standard FMCB install should place it in the menu as well.

Using uLE you can inspect the contents of all folders on the MC to see if HDLoader is stored anywhere on it or not, and if not you can use uLE to copy it onto the MC, either from a USB device or using LAN (with a suitable HOST client program on the PC).

If/when HDLoader is on the MC, you can use the FMCB Configurator to place it in the OSDSYS menu as well, though you can also use uLE to launch HDL if you prefer that method. You can also use the FMCB configurator to check what buttons to hold at boot time in order to start specific programs directly, but the configurator sometimes includes entries that are not yet installed to the MC, so you may still need to install the files using the uLE FileBrowser.

Quote:

That is very odd, since ps2link is not part of the 'standard' FMCB install. Of course any applications can be added, but only some have special treatment by the installer program, and ps2link is not one of them while HDLoader is.

To me it looks as if you got an install intended for someone else. Someone who didn't want HDLoader (useless on recent PStwo models) but instead wanted ps2link (good for PS2 program testing over network).

But somehow I doubt that your description of the OSDSYS menu is complete, since you did not mention "System Configuration", which is a mandatory entry that the standard FMCB installer program is unable to remove. So you should also have that entry.

Best regards: dlanor

ok , thanx for the info m8, the bro aar36095 very simply showed me how to enable HdLoader everything is fine now , because he did have it somewhere on the card, just not set up for initial boot. although i will prolly get a ar max evo or whatever , so i can make more then just one mcboot since it is the one and only of awesomeness in the whole wide world in reguards to homebrew!

i just bought 3 more ps2`s and have 10 in que on ebay, so i should have lots of mc boots to go along, and if $ony ever reads this i would like them to know that, all i wanted was my fair share , all i would like is what`s comming to me

I'm glad that worked out for you.

There is absolutely no reason to get ARMax or any other such tool just to make new FMCB installations, when you already have one memory card working with it. The only reason why those tools are used in some installation tutorials is that people who do not have any working FMCB card already will need some such tool to start the FMCB installer.

But when you already have a working FMCB card, there is no need for any commercial tools to allow you to make new FMCB installations yourself.

Typically you'd do that by preparing a USB stick holding the FMCB installer package, with the standard elf files added to its INSTALL folder (BOOT.ELF from uLaunchELF etc). Then you would use your existing FMCB card to boot uLaunchELF, replace the old MC with the new MC to be installed in MC slot 1, and then use uLaunchELF to start the FMCB installer from USB.

Backups are always a good idea, though 14 PS2 consoles does seem a bit extreme
(Possibly you just meant 14 PS2 MCs, rather than 14 PS2s )

hehe , i already have about 14 ps2 and like 200 games so i am cringed on them more now though! to maybe last forever and ever , untill the very end of the world even that is why i really like Hdloader cuz i think that not much trouble on the ps2 to run from HDD rather then the dvdrom. but now that this best appliaction ever is able to boot form memory card ! i am blown away at how long the ps2 can now possibly last !

oh yeah, i thought you said i could not copy fmcb memory card to memory card cuz the "B?EXEC-SYSTEM" things, but i guess i can , as long as i use uLE to copy the stuff like you said rather then using the sony browser , cuz you said that would not work.

is that easy to do , or is there a guide on copying fmcb from memory card to another memory card?

You can copy the files or even the entire fmcb folder from 1 MC to another.......but IT WILL NOT WORK. Free McBoot MUST be installed on a MC for it to work.

The only MC that would work for copying is if you copied the files to a storeage MC, USB, HDD........messed up the same MC somehow and copied them back to the MC they were installed on . That would work.
