Maybe I misunderstood what you meant. It's definitely possible to only load portions of files, and depending on what you're doing with them it may make sense to stream into a small buffer in memory. I was talking about bypassing all copying to memory (i.e. reading bytes/words directly from USB or CDVD host interface registers into CPU registers).

PS3 - 256MB
XBOX 360 - 512MB
Wii - 730Mhz 88MB

PS3 - 512MB

It's not unified, but the system does have a total of 512 MB for CPU and GPU.

I think a N64 emulator is possible to run 80% - 100% on the PS2. On the PSP it is possible to. I have a PSP and the most N64 Games is running in 80% - 100% speed. I think the hardwere from the PS2 is al litle bit better that from the PSP. I think the problem is that the programmer canīt programming the PS2 Hardwere 100%. I think when you talk with an Sony programmer that programming PS2 games he can programming a N64 emulater that run with 100% speed.

Bigger files runs faster already loaded into memory; RAM, Random Access Memory, than from disk, in which is sequential access memory.

...

OK, first off, that PSP emulator is hacky as hell, and trust me, not all games will run well on it. The PSP just doesn't have the power needed. It'll run the games fast, sure, but it won't emulate many effects properly, sound is likely to be fairly screwed up, etc etc.

Look up all of the problems N64 emulation has on the PC. While coding for a fixed platform will make it easier to work around/solve some of them, there are just too many damn issues. Remember, the N64 is a fair bit more powerful than the PSX.
