Running PSX games on PS2 from a USB/DVD?

Hello, for some odd reason my PS2 doesn't read PSX cd's anymore, so is there a way that I could play PSX games via a pen drive or from DVD?

I tried burning a PSX game into DVD but again the PS2 didn't recognize it.

thanks in advance.

You are probably out of focus on CD media, I sent it to a chip installer and s/he adjusted my laser for me.

Not at present. The PS1 mode implemented by Sony for the PS2 does not allow any of the PS2-specific media to work. One reason for this is that in PS1 mode the IOP, which normally handles PS2 device drivers, is instead used as the main CPU for the emulated PS1.

That is correct, and there are two distinct reasons for it.

1: No PS1 model ever had a DVD drive, so DVD media are not valid for PS1 booting.
2: An unmodded PS2 is not normally able to access any burned DVD-R game disc.

The second reason can be circumvented for PS2 games by using the FMCB homebrew boot method and launching the program ESR, which allow DVD-R games to be used on an unmodded console, though each such game ISO must be patched for ESR before burning the disc. (Check more info on FMCB and ESR in the 'FreeVAST' subforum)

But there is currently no cure for the fact that DVD discs are not valid media for PS1 games.

There will be a cure for it in future though as a PS1 emulator is being developed which will work in PS2 mode, thus being able to use all PS2 media to access the game ISOs. This emulator is being developed by ffgriever, the same guy who created ESR, but because he is still quite busy with ESR improvements, the PS1 emulator has been 'put on hold'.

Best regards: dlanor

My PS2 is modded, and it can read cd's just fine (like Audio CD's, Half Life 1 etc) but what it doesn't read is psx games.
I think the PS2 does recognize the CD itself, but doesn't play the game that stored into the CD. very weird, I think it's a modship/laser problem.

I'll try cleaning up my laser, thank you all.

cogswap, swap magic, PSXLauncher, Zoneloader only works on v9 and up though, I'm not sure but I think Zoneloader is strictly for ps2 cd's and dvd's.

Psx

Press EJECT button to switch on the machine.
- Insert PSX game in tray, then press and hold RESET button to switch off machine.
- Now hold the RESET button to start up your machine. Only release the RESET button once the Blue LED light of the Eject button lights up.

WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to have this problem too...I use the reset button method and it works after several trials...
I know that I read somewhere before about a piece of software that can launch PSX backups on a modded PS2, but I am not sure where exactly I saw this piece of info...any ideas?

Do you mean psxlauncher.elf ? It's supposed to work on v9 and higher. I never used it though.
