Use Codebreaker 9.3 with HDLoader/ESR Games!

Update: I will be making a YouTube video on this topic. Check back in about a week.
This is a simple, easy to use guide on how to use the patched ELF version of Codebreaker 9.3 with HD Loader, or ESR by ffgriever. You will need:

HDLoader or ESR

Patched CodeBreaker 9.3 elf
Download: link removed by poster
Google for this to find the elf: codebreaker 9.3 hdloader patched
It should be a t*rrent site...

Some Codebreaker-compatible games on your HD or for ESR: burned with the ESR patcher

A way to boot PS2 elfs, let it be Free MCBoot(i'm using this), the PS1 exploit or even the Swap Magic/AR MAX method.

Ok! Lets get started!

Step 1: Download my included Codebreaker zip file and unzip it. If you need to have it on a CD for whatever reason, burn the ISO. If you need to boot it by the ELF methods, go ahead.

NOTE: If you have a Slim PS2, make sure you have about 3MB's free on your MC, as CB 9.3 has lots of codes. If you have the Fat PS2 and store your elf's on a USB drive or HDD, then have about 300Kbytes free.

Step 2: Get it on the PS2. Fat PS2 owners, you should know how to do this. Slim users: You cannot have a USB drive in when Codebreaker is launched. It will freeze anytime a USB device is plugged in. Copy the Codebreaker.elf file into the MC.

Step 3: Once you have it setup and have a way to boot it, rename your HDLoader.elf or ESR dvd direct.elf to: CB_launch.elf. This will let you start HDL or ESR after you've selected the cheats. Copy CB_launch.elf into the BOOT folder of your MC.

Step 4: Boot Codebreaker, and select your cheats. Select Start Game and hit X. ESR users: put your backup in now, when it says Please insert disc. Close the tray. Hit X to load ESR and your game. HDLoader users: After you've selected your cheats, select Start Game, and when it asks Please insert disc, just hit x. HDLoader will load, and then select the game that you have enabled cheats. Load it!

Happy Cheating with your HDLoader or ESR!
PS: I have tested this successfully with GTA3. Note: If you dont have a save game on GTA3, it will crash at the intro cutscene with cheats. Start a new game and save, then load cheats.
The only game that won't work with this and ESR is GTA San Andreas 2.0, which is a newer version that CB 9.3 does not support, so cheats are useless on the Trilogy pack or DVD's bought after 02/02/08
NOTE: GTA San Andreas is now working if you download the GTA SA Special Edition Day1 file available at cmgsccc.com, the official website for codebreaker. Direct link: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=d...db6fb9a8902bda

I don't get it :\ . I have the osdmain (Or whatever it's called) file my cousin copied from his memory card that had free mcboot installed on so that I can embed it as the dvd player. I have the esr elf as well so the games boots and everything is working great. The problem is that when I ran the patched CB 9.3 elf, selected the cheats I wanted to use and loaded the game when it booted ESR as CB_launcher, the screen gets stuck on magenta (The games works when not booting from CB). Does anyone know what's wrong?

Change the order, in which you start CB and ESR,...
Load CB "patched", to run ESR (Direct-DVD).

What do you mean? I have ESR DVD direct elf renamed to CB_launch.elf and placed it in the Boot folder. First, I used uLaunchElf to load the CB ver9.3 elf. After choosing cheats, I select "Start Game" and inserted my burned PS2 game. I pressed X again to confirm that I have replaced the disc. Sometimes CB will just hang at the "Starting game, please wait" phase or when it does boot, the game will freeze at the magenta screen.

Is it because I'm runnning CB off the pendrive, which also has the Boot directory containing the esr?

Did you tried to boot CB trough the MC-Version? (I assumed, you did it this way, before you replied.)

Yes, the game MAY interfere with loaded USB-Drivers, but I don't think so, because I thought ESR clears all temper data in RAM (which is not related to it).
But I don't know.

For some reason, CB doesn't boot if I run it off the MC. I had to run it on the pendrive for it to work.

Did you try to start uLE with ESR-MC and CB through ule's filebrowser?
CB should run from MC, but it might take a half, or one minute to boot (because of the filesize,... A MC isn't that fast,...)

I haven't used ESR's MC to boot the launcher yet so I might give it a try. Is it okay to just boot CB's elf file through the ESR MC instead of uLE? As for CB taking awhile on the memory card, I already knew that but it was still blank after 5 minutes.

EDIT: It still doesn't work, as CB freezes when I try to load it through uLE after booting the ESR MC version.

CD

My working configuration for this method:

IN MC0:/
BOOT

In MC0:/BOOT/
CB_launch.elf

In MASS:/
Codebreaker.elf
rescue.elf (Ulaunch 4.21)

When I start my PS2, FreeMCBoot loads up Ulaunchelf, I hit X to load Codebreaker.elf, I select cheats, press start, start the game, and ESR loads. THIS WILL WORK WITH ORIGINAL GAMES TOO! just make sure the original is in BEFORE you start the PS2.

How should my config be if I don't have FMCB? I only have the osdmain.elf created from it and renamed to dvdplayer.elf so that I can boot ESR games through the PS2 browser.

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it to work by using your configuration. Thanks .

almost there

Guys i got all this to work thanx to all the help posted ..the catch is i got it to work individually, but once i try to first boot the CB -> select codes -> load the ESR game (persona 3 FES) it goes back to the File browser menu (where i can load elf files and browse mass:/)

I can boot the ESR game without swapdisc from the MC fine. I can also load the CB from MC fine .... but i cant figure out how to tell the ps2 to boot the ESR game once i chose my codes.

i am so close to getting this to work (after hours of reading) could i get that last bit of help i need for this to fire up properly ?

I know it has to do with what TnA posted "Change the order, in which you start CB and ESR,...
Load CB "patched", to run ESR (Direct-DVD)." but how to do this exactly ?

Btw, my game is burnt on a backup dvd

Use the "CB-Patcher" by ffgriever.
Patch the CB to load the ESR (direct DVD)-ELF from a location, you want to.
Then place ESR in this location, with the name you specified.

If you do all right, start your CB --> Select your codes --> (here is the last chance, to put your disc in -->) Click on "start game" and ESR-colors should flash.

Hope it helps.

Make sure the ESR direct DVD file is renamed to CB_launch.elf, and placed in either mc0:/boot/, mass:/boot/, or, hdd0:/__boot/.

That is because the patched CB looks in several different locations for two different elf files, and the first one it finds will be launched. The first filename it looks for is "CB_launch.elf", and the second one is "BOOT.ELF", and the places where it looks for these include "mc0:/BOOT/". That is why it restarts uLaunchELF (aka: uLE) for you, when you have that installed as "mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF", and no "CB_launch.elf" stored in the tested locations.

Assuming that you know how to use uLE to copy files you can easily fix this by making a copy of the ESR elf (the 'dvdv direct' variant) renaming it to "CB_launch.elf" and copying this into the "mc0:/BOOT/" folder.

The next time CB is told to 'start game' and starts to search for an elf to launch (thanks to the patch) it will find the "CB_launch.elf" file before looking for "BOOT.ELF", and will thus start ESR.

That is of course the expectation of ESR, but I hope you remembered to dvdv-patch that ISO before burning it to DVD-R, as that is required to let ESR see the disc on an unmodded PS2/PStwo console. But I think you did this right as you said it works with ESR when used separately from CB.

Best regards: dlanor

Those paths are incorrect, except for the HDD path.

I don't understand why people keep forgetting that character casing is always significant on PS2 filesystems, both for file names and for folder names (and device names too).

The correct pathnames for MC and USB are:
"mc0:/BOOT/CB_launch.elf" and "mass:/BOOT/CB_launch.elf"

Best regards: dlanor

Did he mentioned, that he still has a patched CB?

@yessirsir: So if you still have a "HDL patched CB" (google ), did it the way dlanor told ya.

If not, search for the "HDL patched CB", or patch a CB on your own, with ffgrievers CB-Patcher (only, if you want it to search in other folders, or names, or both).
