Alright, I just successfully installed the PS3 swap switch(many thanks to original tutorial and modder), and i now can try launch all PS2 backups and homebrew on my 60gb PS3 f/w 2.42
These are my homebrew results, all with uLE 4.28 or psxloader:
ule 4.28 - runs fine with usbmass support if u have usbd.irx*
Snes-Station USB ver - plays fine from psxloader with pgen setting
Pgen USB ver - runs with psxloader with pgen setting
infogb(kaylakaze ver) - freezes on splash with psxloader(black screen with ule 4.28)
fceultra ps2(all builds) - works with psxloader(awsome little emu!)
hdloader - runs ELF, says not compatible from either ule of psxloader(think its possible though)
Beats of Rage - Works from psxloader and ULE(4.28)
USBAdvance - boots to splash screen, then freezes
I'm still testing various other ps2 programs this way, but there was one interesting thing I learned that I think is key to hdloader working........I have a old original psm demo disc with levels of socom that installs to the ps2 hdd..........when I put this disc into my ps3, when I press x it asks me to create a partition for the socom levels BEFORE the game even ran! This leads me to believe the ps3 has 2 ps2 modes, one of which enables the hdd for the ps2 side of the system.
*new*
With the new uLE 4.28, the VMC support is compatible with the ps3. Which means you can basically have 2 formats of virtual memory card backups of ps2 files on the USB dirve.
Back to hdloader(PS2 on PS3 hdd):
Basically, after doing some research on ps2 homebrew on ps3, it is known that the ps2 bios on the ps3 is "stripped" of certain drivers/modules. Knowing that, I see how psxloader works, but i was wondering if it was possible to also include the same feature of loading external modules to uLE in the same manner that psxloader does? This way uLE can be the loader for ALL ps2 homebrew on the ps3, also trying to include other modules that may be required for incompatible ps2 homebrew.
I don't really know too much about coding the ELF myself, but I've been on the scene for 4 yrs now and everything I know about ps2 hacking/homebrew, I learned here. On random ps2 games there are all the modules needed to run PS2 compatible software on ps3.
HDD.IRX, ATAD.IRX, DEV9.IRX, FS.IRX, etc....I'm just thinking if these modules could be mounted like LIBSD, XMCMAN and XMCSERV, I think ps2 on ps3 might get a lot more interesting......but if I am wrong, let me know
just my 2 cents
