My PS1 favorite: No Fear - Downhill Mountain Biking, I would really like to play that game from the PS2 HDD, no doubt. And Tomb Raider I :-)

I was wondering what would happen if you made a PS1 UMCDR
with a PS1DRV.ELF on it would it play if I loaded PS1DRV.ELF off the disc with PS2Menu? will it pass the disc checks? PS2Menu loads ps2 retail cd's fine but fails on multiple elf discs such as demo discs.

^ Great! I would do the same, but w/ the job from 2pm to 10pm! Less gameplay time, but I don't have friends anyway!

Will you please stop nagging on this subject !?!

The UMCDR drivers only exist for PS2 programs, and as soon as PS1DRV is started (no matter from what media it is loaded) all PS2 device drivers will DIE, CEASE TO EXIST, and EVAPORATE, because it is impossible for them to remain active while the console is in PS1 mode.

That is because the IOP processor which normally handles all PS2 device drivers is instead used as the main PS1 processor in PS1 mode, and all the IOP RAM normally used for device drivers and other IOP modules will instead be needed for the PS1 game programs.

I also think that the UMCDR driver (and certainly the similar CDDAFS driver of SMS) is dependent on the main PS2 program running on the EE processor as well, so that this device would not survive with full functionality even if it was a normal PS2 program that was launched, instead of PS1DRV.

Summary:
There is no way ever to make any PS2 device driver work in PS1 mode, no matter how you attempt to abuse PS1DRV or other system components. It simply is not possible...!!!
So please stop wasting time on these futile attempts to run PS1 games via PS2 devices.

Like I've said before, doing so will require an emulator that can execute PS1 games while still leaving the console in PS2 mode. And no such emulator is yet released to the public.

Best regards: dlanor

Regarding PS2PSXe

dlanor - I have a few questions for you since your in the beta for PS2PSXe.

Installation:
• Question 1.1 - Can it be installed on the HD? I ask this because my little 8mb card is getting awfully filled and a Bios with save states and save games is going to be space expensive on the 8mb as opposed to the 500gb hard drive that laughs in the face of program size.

• Question 1.2 - How is it loaded into the system? Is it an Elf file with all the files in the same directory or does it have multiple files and/or folders where data can be stored?

• Question 1.3 - HDloader requires special software and makes separate partitions for each game. How do I load the PSX games onto a internal HD?

• Question 1.4 - Is it possible to run both PS2PSXe and HDloader on the same hard drive?
Format:
• Question 2.1 - What formats [.iso|Slandered Iso Image File] etc (assuming more than one) does PS2PSXe support?

• Question 2.2 - Can it take screen shots?
Performance:
• Question 3.1 - Lets face it, the main two reasons why this is so cool is because of one, using the HD to store all those PSX games rather than swapping CD's like mad, and two "savestate". How does it preform in those departments.

• Question 3.2 - According to the claims made during it's unveiling, it plays at a decent speed. How fast does it run? Like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7. Is it very playable, so-so, or still need improvement?

• Question 3.3 - Can the software handle swapping multi-disk games?
Hardware:
• Question 4.1 - It's obvious the PS2 is needed, what about memory cards. Will the emulator have the ability to save to the HD into .mc files and possible to a real PS1 MC as well?
Software:
• Question 5.1 - Is there an in-game menu -- while it goes without saying there probably is, how is it accessed? R1+L1+Start? Some PS1 games use some of those button configuration, so are the menu keys flexible? And more so, can they be tailored to load presets depending on the game?

• Question 5.2 - Load times, The whole reason I got a Fat-Boy, a network adapter (for 15$ from gamestop, take that eBay!), and put a Hard Disk into my PS2 was to reduce load times (And put my game DVD's safely away). When the PSX games are on the HD, do they load a whole lot faster. Or is it pretty much the same or slightly better than the CD?

• Question 5.3 - Does the PS2PSXe have an loader that looks like; HDloader or a file system loader?
Off Topic but somehow remotely related:
• Question - Is there a program that can 'give' savestate to PS2 games? I'd love to save state PS2 games, in fact the reason I play my PS1 games on my PC is for savestate.
I just had to know, it was worth registering to find out.
