I tried it using a PS1 demo disc with no codes enabled it loaded the disc fine but when I played a demo and returned to the demo selection menu it went black with the menu music playing so I guess it wouldn't be a viable option anyway with games that have multiple .EXE's for different stages of the game

At this point I'm going to ask that you create a new topic on this since this one has to do with patching a ps2 codebreaker to load HDL directly. not ps1 games.

CB10 to ESR Ps2Slim

my first week into ps2 homebrewy
Ive made several attempts to patch cb10 using ffg's cb10hdl patcher.
i have a retail cb10 only usb doesnt work with some of the slim versions.
plugged in cb10 to my pc renamed to elf, patched it to point to cb_launcher(esr r9a direct). did NOT work. tried a bunch of other stuff. but straight on to how i got it to work. btw ive dl'ed loads of cb10 elfs loookin for the right md5 checksum, but that didnt matter. heres my set up
fmcb cfg
R1:BOOT1.ELF(uLaunch)
R2:BOOT2.ELF(SmsMediaPlayer)
L1:BOOT3.ELF(ESR direct)
L2:BOOT4.ELF(CB10-ESR direct) note: if using usb games try boot to ulaunch - esr mc/usb

found that my newer v15 was not supposed to have a harddrive at all not even the ide connectors
Take CB10's SLUS or whatever it may be out renamed to elf,or download 1
if you have a newer slim like mines this is worth trying if CB loads But ESR screen does not come up at all.
when patching CB10 for newer slims make sure u got the right patcher
point to target mines is mc0:\BOOT\BOOT3.ELF(ESR direct/off) alt. point to uLaunch for more options or if you use usb games/usb hd load esr mc/usb from here.(not yet attempted, only have 512mb usb not enough for games)
Leaving the hdd0 as is or blank, i believe the program is supposed to find the elf thats in the hdd0:\__BOOT\, maybe if you have a hdd0:\__BOOT\ but nothing in it then it will skip this? but if you dont have a hdd0 at all, it jes hangs.
so if you plan on using usb or mc with no hdd0 for slim like mine
point the hdd0 and mass0 target to mc0:\....
works fine for me.
oh and cb10 for newer slims = no usb, im using because i paid for it, might as well, you might be able to get cb10 usb access thru ulaunch. hope this helps some
remember it is case sensitive
in all if you havent cb10 yet, avoid it, unless you get the newer one that is compatible with newer slims
Thanks to ffg and all other homebrewers for making my ps2 homebrewy easier!

As far as I'm aware it is only for CodeBreaker that the USB access on late PStwo models fail (from SCPH-7500x and onwards). With other software it works fine.

That is true for all PStwo models from v14 and onwards, as the chip that handled both network and IDE interface has been removed from the design, with only the network part being replaced by a new implementation. So the IDE interface is completely absent.

But are you sure that your model is v15 ?

From some parts of your post I got the impression that CodeBreaker can access USB on your console, which never worked for others on a v15 (SCPH-7700x).

yes its a v15 77001 sorry for the confusion, there is no usb access with cb10, but when i need usb access i use ulaunch but i see where the confusion was made , ill edit.

but my point in that thread was to tell that if you have newer slims and patch cb10 with hdloader u must make all entries to mc0:\... or itll just hang on black screen, appreciate the feedback.

again it is my first week still newb to this

I added day1 files I've made using a retail CB 9.3 and upgrade.bin on the flash drive, how would I make it show up in CB 10.0? I've also tried the cracked 9.2 with day 1 fix.

My patched CB 9.3 won't load HDL after adding new codes from the "Day 1" option. Is there any known solution for this? It works perfectly fine before adding them.

well I have a similar issue with the patched 9.3 which is why I had to go to 10.0. When it asked to replace a older cheat database, I picked yes. After that it would never load hdl afterwards, worked fine before.

The reason of such behavior is both obvious and unknown (yes, I know how it sounds).

Obvious, because it's most likely the launcher code being overwritten by codelist.

Unknown, because it happens only for some people. I can install as many day1 codes as I want and it is still working fine for me (considering the reports... it's the same for most of the users). But for some reasons few users are having problems with that (installing more than some fixed amount of day1 codes or adding their own codes make it crash). I couldn't properly investigate the problem, because (as I have written above) I couldn't replicate this behavior on any of my consoles (and I have quite a lot of different models) - this makes me think it's not console model dependent, but that there is another variable.

I'm going to update the patchers to allow changing the default day1 server, so I guess I'll reorganize it to minimize the possibility of overwriting even more. Just don't count on this one... can't give you any ETA.

which is unpacked 2 times

but when i try to unpack (with 1.1 and 1.2 version of unpacker) i just got a message "out of range memory read" in both cases
i made the process in 2 different computers... and no way!
i find another link with the first md5 29A8D99D9735EE6E03A785F0EF31B23D and no way too.

can someone help me?
can inform me the crc and the perfect size of the file?
tks

Use the unpacker app attached in the first post of this thread. It's modified slightly to let some more unpacker stubs emulate properly (I didn't check this, but I assume that the attached unpacker is the modified one... if it isn't then I can upload it here).

Hmm what a mess I'm in. So I was browsing the CodeBreaker site downloading some Day 1 files and then it occurred to me that there is an internet option in CodeBreaker 9.3 so that I can just directly download the files. So I did. Connect an Ethernet cord from my router to my Network Adapter and loaded it up. CodeBreaker loaded a list of games (around 1,200 I believe...) which then I could highlight which ones I'd want to download or update. So I went a little bit crazy and chose around 80 games. After that CodeBreaker downloaded them (or tried) and said that it was finished. Took me back to my Code list so I looked around to see if the cheats are actually there. Some are. So I was like "lol wut" and decided to go back and try again. It asked me if I wanted to save the changes so I chose yes. I downloaded back the God Hand Day 1 file since that's what I wanted the whole time. So after that I went to boot up the game from my HDD.

Then that's where it froze. Nothing happened, no HD Loader splash screen. So I turned off the PS2 and tried again. Still nothing. So I panicked and thought that the CodeBreaker might have corrupted my HDD. I launched HDLoader from Free MC Boot and everything was fine. My games were still there and they played fine- just without cheats.

Next I thought since CodeBreaker updated the list then maybe it took out the patch along with it. So then I installed a fresh version of a patched CodeBreaker 9.3 to see if it would solve the problem. I would have to add in the games that I put in after installing CB of course....or so I thought. Even after installeing a new CB the cheats that I added in are still there. Strange I thought.

Is there any files on the HDD that CB looks for the cheat list? I tried looking through the HDD with uLaunch FileBrowser but I saw nothing pertaining to CodeBreaker. I also looked through my Memory Card but there was nothing...I think. I don't know if it's in the BADATA-SYSTEM or what.

So tl;dr:

1. Messed up the patched CB..I think through Day 1 online feature.
2. Decided to install a fresh patched CB 9.3.
3. Cheats were still there.
4. So I guess I need to delete the cheat list? If so where?

Hmm this went on too long lol. Sorry.

From your description it does seem as if something went wrong there, though I have tested Day 1 downloading myself without such problems. But if the routines for that are bugged somehow that could very well relate to the number of cheats downloaded, or even to individual cheats, as this will affect how the database structure needs to be modified.

Quote:

I don't see how that would help if the real problem is a cheat database error.
The database remains unchanged even if you switch to a fresh copy of the program.

That's how it should work.

When saving modified cheats on a console with HDD, CodeBreaker will do so by creating a specially formatted partition.

The contents of that partition are not accessible through a normal PFS filesystem, even though they 'flag' the partition type as PFS. But attempting to use PFS methods to access it will crash the HDD drivers. To avoid such crashing uLaunchELF (aka: uLE) does not show this partition in its FileBrowser, hiding it to prevent the user from accessing it by mistake (just as we also do with HDL game partitions).

The only thing you can do to that partition with uLE is to delete the partition entirely, using the MISC/HddManager subprogram. HddManager will show a list of all existing partitions, and there you can highlight the CB partition, almost as you would a file in FileBrowser, and then press R1 to open a menu where you choose the "Remove" command. That will remove the highlighted partition from your HDD.

I believe that the partition name may vary slightly between different CodeBreaker versions, but they will have certain elements in common:

The start of the name is always: "PP.SLUS-20202."
and the end of the name is always: ".PCB"
and between those parts there is a number (probably a program 'build' number)

For me the full name is: "PP.SLUS-20202.1108.PCB"

Removing that partition will cause CodeBreaker to start over the next time you launch it, going back to using the cheat list internal to the program. And it will then create a new partition on your HDD (as described above) to hold any new cheats you enter.

Personally I have found the Day 1 feature completely useless, as I mostly don't have the US versions of the games anyway, and my CodeBreaker elfs don't accept european Day 1 files even from a USB device that CodeBreaker is compatible to. So I've stopped even attempting to use the Day 1 feature. Instead I enter all cheats I use by hand, for which I recommend using a USB keyboard (useful not only with CodeBreaker, but also with uLE).

Best regards: dlanor

Ah I saw that HDD Manager in the misc. but I thought nothing of it.

OK so I went ahead and deleted the "PP.SLUS-20202.1108.PCB" partition. Loaded CB again and it said that there were changes made and if I'd like to save. I chose yes. Chose a random game and cheats to test it out. Went to start game. Then it tried to eject the disc tray on the DVD. Weird...

Next I tried installing the patched CB again. Tried it one more time and same thing....

So then I deleted the partition WITH a fresh copy of CB but still nothing. This really is strange.

No. There is nothing strange about it. This is all perfectly normal.
When you delete the CodeBreaker partition you get rid of the database (as you needed to), but you also get rid of other CodeBreaker settings that were stored there, so that CodeBreaker will fall back to defaults for all settings the next time you start it.

The CodeBreaker patches by ffgriever only cause CB to launch an elf file (for HDLoader or ESR) instead of launching a PS2 game disc in the CDVD drive. But the patch does not inhibit the tray eject that by default precedes a game launch. That is left for the user to do in setting up CodeBreaker the first time.

So after CodeBreaker has started, move the menu to the wrench icon (for 'Options') and press 'X', and in the Options menu press 'X' again to change "Auto Tray Eject:" from "ON" to "OFF". Then press 'O' to exit back to the main menu again. The program will then tell you that the configuration has been changed and will ask if you want to save it, which you should confirm by again pressing 'X'. Then you can proceed to select cheats and launch game. When you give the launch command (select the disc icon and press 'X') you will get a disc insertion prompt as before, but no eject, so you just confirm your command by pressing 'X' once more, after which the HDLoader elf launch will proceed.

In the next CodeBreaker session the program will remember the "OFF" setting for tray ejection, so you won't need to repeat that setting again, which is probably why you had forgotten having to do this when you first started using the patched CodeBreaker.

Best regards: dlanor
