Fat ps2 lost rumble support?

well today i finally received my ps2 network adapter from ebay, loaded up the hard-drive with 13 of my games and connected it to my PAL Fat V7 39002.. everything works fine except for one thing.

the rumble in the controller is not working, in ANY game.. i have tried ESR games / original games / hdd games.

i even removed the network adapter and hard-drive then tried esr/original games again, still with no luck.

tried running original without memcard inserted using default ps2 os, still did not work.

the controller works PERFECT on my slim ps2 79002, including rumble... so its definentally not the controller broken.

stupid thing is i cannot remember if the rumble/vibration was working before i installed the network-adapter/hdd, as i usually always played my slim until now,.... although i did play games couple weeks ago on the fat ps2 setup in the lounge on the bigger telly so i could play tomb raider with swapmagic before i got it working with esr.... i think i would of noticed if it was not working then.


right now im lost as to what the problem is, tried original game with mc/hdd removed and that didnt work, yet it works on the slim without a single problem in any game

anyone else had a problem like this? is there some sort of hidden setting i might of changed on the fat ps2? (i doubt that lol), i dont see why the only thing to stop working is rumble

sure, rumble is not needed to play games... but i sure as hell prefer it

now that i can play games off the hdd, i have no use for my slim ps2.. so am going to sell it on ebay.

but i need this problem worked out if possible first... little things like this annoy me so much, it shouldnt... but it really really does.

It seems like I saw something somewhere about the possibility of killing rumble feature in the fat PS2's. I think, but I am not positive, that it can be caused by a defective controller being plugged into a fat ps2 at sometime or another or something like that, but yes, the rumble feature can be lost as I just realized a few days ago that mine is gone too. (39001) I am just unclear on what causes it.

I wonder if there is an easy fix for this issue?

found this post, aparently it could be a blown fuse on the ps2 mainboard... and supposedly a quick solder patchup job will fix it.. however since i dont have a multi-meter i cant be sure if this is my problem , the post mentions that the cause could be mod chip install or something, however my console is not chipped... i only baught it a few weeks ago from my cousin, he uses 3rd party controllers, with turbo and all that sorta crap... i guess that could of overloaded the fuse, but i dunno yet.

there are no pictures, but the post is detailed. and if you have a multi-meter it might be worth checking it out.

im going to try and find more info.. aswell as try to get my hands on a multi-meter

well i decided to open up the console and see if i could find the fuse the guide was talking about, but there are no fuses with s7 written on them in my console, checked them ALL ... i might as well leave it unless i find a detailed picture/guide for my version console.

at least while i had the console completely pulled apart i could clean all the dust and crap out of it.

only problem now is after i put the console back together i seem to have 1 screw left over oh well, its working.. i will pull it apart again tomorrow and see where that other screw goes.

i got a ps3 couple days ago.. so i doubt i will be on the ps2 much anyway.

Well I noticed TNA Impact! "crap game I know" doesn't vibrate but I'm not sure if the game included Dual Shock support anyway even though the US Sony site says so http://www.us.playstation.com/PS2/Games/TNA_iMPACT I tested it with both HDLoader & ESR "Untested with Swap Magic".
Could be something to do with the PS3 where they didn't include Dual Shock 3 support cos they where lazy and it's fairly new technology which made the PS2 version lack the dual shock feature too.
I then went on to test games which are known to include dual shock support like Gran Turismo 4 and Max Payne and both worked fine.

Ok scrapy, The tutorial you posted worked for me and I have a version 7. Here is how I did it. Acquire or build a continuity tester with some "AA" batteries and an LED. When you get your PS2 apart, familiarize yourself with what the fuses look like and check them all. Don't worry about the descripter numbers in the how-to as you will be checking all the fuses in the area described. When you find the bad fuse, either solder a wire across the 2 points on the fuse, or replace the fuse entirely from another PS2 board.

i did exactly what u said the 1st time round lmao, battery and a led..

problem i have, is i dont have any idea what im doing lol... i found the area on the board i was supposed to be looking at *i think*.. it seems like the fuses where lighting the led as long as they where on the same track, but if a fuse was touching 2 different tracks then it would not light the led. confusing me

dunno if that makes much sense lol.

since we have the same version console...

is there any chance you could please take a picture of the fuse you changed, and mark it on the picture... so i can test that same fuse myself?

The fuse is marked PS7 in the attached Pic. This should be your culprit.

*EDIT* Of course, after I posted, I started to second guess myself so I had to tear my shit apart again to make sure, lol. Yep, it is PS7. Check it to make sure and then just bridge it (probably easiest).

Ok, to make sure your checking them right, Here you go.

tester lead 1 <-----O------__-------[+=====-]--[+=====-]----> tester lead 2
_____________(-) LED (+)___________(+) Batteries (-)________

Each side of the fuse has a metal spot. Touch one wire of your "Tester" to each side of the fuse.

I am enjoying my PS2 even more now knowing that it is currently in perfect working condition.
