I've searched around google for a while, about a month, but can't find a dead on answer. I've been wanting to get a PS2 and mod it. I've seen this memory card mod, and was mainly looking into that. How do I go about doin' that? Do I have to buy a special card, or can I just use any old card, similar to an Xbox Game save? I've modded several Xboxs, but just decided to give a go with a PS2. Any help would be appreciated. (Links to tutorials, or even a place that will answer my questions would be great.)

Plus some insight BLACK.. Softmoding a PS2 is way easyer and quicker then an Xbox..

I have as well moded many xbox's in my day..
Takes less then 5 mins on a PS2.. Compared to Xbox thats pretty quick..

Easiest way to do it -
Get yourself a codebreaker disc at the game store.
Get a psx disc.
Download this: http://ps2dev.org/ps2/Loaders/PS2_eXploit_Made_Easy (Forgive me if linking is not allowed. Just google for "ps2 exploit made easy" if this gets deleted.)
Make sure the playstation 1 disc is listed in the text file, or else it won't work.
Unzip the .cbs file onto a pen drive, dont put it into a folder on the pen drive though. Oh, make sure its formatted, fat32 should work.
Start codebreaker.
Use "device manager" in codebreaker.
copy the "system configuration" file onto the memory card.
Put your playstation disc in the drive.
reboot.
From there, you can figure it out. Start ulaunchelf, then follow the instructions to install freevast and you're all set.

Actually, the xbox just requires one save and one game and no further interaction. I would say they're equally as easy though. Unless you wanted to upgrade the harddrive, ps2 is definetely easier then that, except for the fact that you need to own a fat ps2 plus buy a network adapter. All the xbox needs is another hdd. However, the homebrew on xbox is more abundant. The coolest part about the ps2 is that it supports usb, xbox doesn't.

Please note that the exploit method described by riverstyx will only work on an old fat PS2, and never on a new slim PStwo. Sony caught on to what was being done and eliminated the software weakness exploited, so on newer consoles it has no effect.

The new FMCB boot method still works on all console models, but on the new slim PStwo consoles you need to use some other method to install it, since the old exploit doesn't work. There are tutorials available for several methods in the FreeVAST subforum (found inside the forum for Homebrew/dev and emu stuff).

Once properly installed the FMCB 'exploit' is simpler to use than any other console exploit I ever heard of, since you don't need to do anything other than having the installed memory card in the console as you turn it on or reset it. No trigger games or other rigmarole is needed.

Btw:
From a technical standpoint FMCB is not really an exploit, since that is a term for software that exploits some weakness in an OS/firmware/software to create a launch method not intended by the original designers, which is not at all the case with FMCB. The method used for its launching is one Sony intentionally designed into the console bios to allow firmware upgrades to run when installed to an MC. We're just using this method to launch software of our own instead.

Edit:
If you can find a used fat PS2 console in good condition, and equip it with a network adaptor, this is by far preferable to getting a new slim PStwo console, since those can never be expanded with an IDE connected HDD, for use with HDLoader etc.

Fat ps2's are much better for homebrew and harddrives, the only bad part is the laser has a better chance of being crap; just due to how long they've been around for now.
