Question

Something that should be added to next ver. of uLE

If possible you should add the ability to delete pictures while in the Jpg viewer (I put them on a USB stick).
Because occasionally I come across a jpg that is distorted/unviewable and in a folder that has many pictures it's sometimes difficult to remember the exact picture that didn't work so you can delete it later.
I know this may seem unimportant to most uLE users, but I can't be the only one that this problem annoys.

Also.
This probably can't be done because of memory usage limits and such, but could you add the ability to play music while using the slide show. (eg. Put a midi, ect. file in folder X and it plays when you start the slide show)

It should not be difficult to add a JpgViewer command menu similar to the one in the main FileBrowser (possibly even reusing the same code, for ultimate efficiency). But we would have to modify some existing command(s) in JpgViewer, since it already uses most gamepad buttons, the only free ones being L3, R3, and 'X' (or 'O' with the swapped OK/CANCEL Pad mapping).

For consistency we really should use the same R1 button as in FileBrowser for the popup menu, and then we have to change L1 too, to get sensible up/down toggles for the slide show display interval. The only available choice then is to use R3 and L3 for that purpose, which I dislike to do. But in this case I see no real alternative.

It could probably be done, but I will not do it.
uLaunchELF is not a media player and that is not going to change.

The JPG support in uLE was really intended only for its skinning needs. The only reason it also has a slideshow mode is because Polo35 had already done all the work for that in the code he contributed and it seemed a shame to scrap it, so we kept it as-is.

If you really want a slideshow with music playing, your best bet would be to join the chorus of people harassing Eugene Plotnikov to add JPG support for SMS. (But even then there's no guarantee that he'd combine it with playing music.)

Best regards: dlanor

That's fine, that part was just a random thought.

Slideshow and Music on PS2

What you want is available on the PS2 with a little work. Mega Man has developed a Linux bootloader to which allows me to turn on the PS2, boot to uLE, which autostarts Mega Man's kernelloader, which autostarts Linux, which autologins (mingetty) and starts X-Windows with Fluxbox (or WindowMaker) Window Managers. t this point I use feh to run my slideshow while I use xmms to play my network-shared mp3s or internet radio. The downside is that you still need access to the Run Time Environment (RTE) files to get sound (google CERF4), and the Linux learning curve (especially on the PS2) is high.

I'm holding out hope that EEUG will add a jpeg viewer to SMS, but I'm impatient and can't code myself, so I compiled and tweaked PS2-Linux to do this for me. Plus feh allows me to run a script and show all the slides with "boat" in the title for example, so it is a bit more useful to me than a basic jpeg viewer. My current PS2 Linux image zips to about 650MB though, so I was thinking about scrubbing out my keys and personal stuff and making it available. I just don't know if anyone really has an interest though to make a slow upload worth it (I upload at 128Kbps so you get the idea). It would replace the blackrhino base image tgz in Mega Man's instructions.

BTW This was posted from my PS2Linux in super-slow Firefox (thanks pietro)

i'd be interested in bare-bones portion of the system (only the text-mode environment), if it's a bit more up-to date than blackrhino base image.
