Made Switch To Vista! Need Help!

Hey guys! We just recently made the switch to Vista. I've taken the exact same settings for network configuration/settings that I was using from the old computer over to the Vista PC. However, I can't get the connection to work. Does the settings have to differ in Vista than XP?

Also, what's the difference between the TCP/IPv6 & the TCP/IPv4 connection? This wasn't the same with the old XP machine. I've been using the TCP/IPv4 settings to connect but keep getting limited connectivity banners. Aren't the settings from both the PC & PS2 supposed to match identical with the IP addresses in Vista too?

I'm having no success at all here with this problem. It worked flawlessly in the old XP machine. However, I'm new to Vista so it's a different type look for me here on this issue. Well, the configuration is similar but the added TCP/IPv6 connection I have no clue to what that's for really. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Below are my network settings currently:

PC:

IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preferred DNS Server: 24.158.96.130
Alternate DNS Server: 24.158.96.131

PS2:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preferred DNS Server: 24.158.96.130
Alternate DNS Server: 24.158.96.131

What do you mean? This was how the setup was in XP? These two IP addresses matched so why wouldn't they now in Vista?

Because the host and server IP can't be the same, one has to be 192.168.0.1 and other 192.168.0.2.

Make up your mind.

Yeah! Now I know better to "drink & drive" indeed! I don't know what I was thinking there. I got it figured it now though. I feel really embarrassed. I must have feel asleep for a while over this because I surely had no problems on the old XP machine. I was just overlooking this configuration setup. Thanks guys & I better go back to now! Ha!

No, the IP addresses should not be the same...

Also, it should not be the same as your gateway (which is most likely your router).

If you want to use static IP addresses, try setting the PC to 192.168.0.2, and the PS2 to 192.168.0.3 (gateway does not change). The last number can be anything from 2 through 254, just keep the first part 192.168.0, and have no duplicates in your network (all my consoles start at 200 and up).

Also (assuming you are using a router), you should be able to set the DNS server to the same as the gateway (192.168.0.1) on both the PC and the PS2.

Edit:
Sorry, had messages displaying in reverse, so didn't see this had already been answered.

vista

What I ususally say about vista is that it "sucks the least" of windows so far. I write really trick custom windows xp installation cd's, that I'm really proud of... but I write them in vista. I have xp bootable on my flashdrive, and have even got a full-on windows xp live cd together (not bartpe), but I dont actually have an xp on my machine. I have quite some time in vista, now, but I realized within the first 10 minutes I tried vista, that USER ACCESS CONTROL (UAC), absolutely HAD TO GO. Later, I wrote this sucker to simplify the matter, it auto-elevates around UAC, so that it can DISABLE UAC by just clicking it. I don't call them "microsuck", for no good reason.
It might make your vista trip a little better.
