Reencoded mkv playback is slow motion

I have recently reencoded an MKV file to avi (mpeg4-asp). But when I play it, its in slow motion, both video and audio. Do I need to encode a specific way?

You reencoded it in mpeg4 avc? The ps2 cant handle that. You need to reencode the mkv in xvid, divx or mpeg-2 to be playable by the ps2.

I've reencoded many files to mpeg-4 asp (xvid4) in an avi container and they worked perfectly. I think it has to do with the fact that the original file was anmkv file.

mkv is just a container. just like avi - it's not a codec but a solution to store multiple video/audio/data streams within one file.

you can't blame the format that audio and video streams were packed together in one file for playback performance.

Can you post the output from MediaInfo for the original .mkv file and the re-encoded .avi file.
