No video just sound

I am running SMS version 2.8 rev 5 from my memory card. I tried to play an xvid avi with it from my usb stick, but it just plays the sound and no video. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Maybe it doesnt have the codecs.

I had so too... but it was my mistake...
I've changed the format of screen and it was only sound...
Maybe You have done the same mistake...

So try change the format of screen to 'letterbox'

Check your pal/ntsc settings are right too, i dont know what your screen type format is but you can set it correct from SMS before you start the video from the main menu by pressing the START button.

If you press start during video play, can you see the pop up menu?

Also, if the screen is blank when the video is playing, You can press SQUARE to toggle between all the aspect modes.

myself i had to reencode at 25fps instead of 23,... a video that had the same problems than yours (sound & no image)...

I have tried other video files and they work. But the file(s) i want to play dont work. They just display the bubble visualisation. Which still makes me think that sms does not have the codecs for it. I have also tried to press start during the playback to change the screen format but it woulnt work
