Help with USB HDD and SMS
I need some help. I have a 40GB USB HDD that I use to run games off of with USB Advance. I'm running the exploit on my ps2 and any other ELF file that is capable of detecting a HDD detects mine, but SMS won't. I used LaunchELF to put a USBD.IRX in mc0:/SMS/ but nothing happens when I boot into SMS. If anyone knows what to do, feel free to post. If I figure it out, I'll post what was up.

Have you tried the USBD.IRX version recommended in the manual (sticky thread)?

Napalm's usbd.irx didn't work for me, I found someone who had the same problem and fixed it. He sent me his working USBD.IRX so I'll post in a bit to say if it worked.
edit: still no luck with either USBD.IRX, could use any suggestions

I've been using SMS with a 40GB USB drive for the past few weeks now ... it's brilliant! But I did have to format the drive using FAT32 as it did not recognize NTFS partitions. Is yours FAT32?
I'm pretty sure that USB Advance allows the use of NTFS, that may be the difference.

I have a 80GB USB HDD that I use for the PS2 too. It is also formated in FAT32 (one of the partitions, which is the one I use). It works perfectly for uLaunchElf, RealityMediaPlayer and SMS (haven't tried any other homebrew) using the naplink USBD.IRX file.
I guess we need to be kind of lucky to have a USB device compatible with the PS2, one of my old pendrives doesn't work for example, but the HDD and a newer pen work perfectly...

I was wondering if you guys could help me, as I have the same problem.
I've been using the USBD.IRX from naplink and have placed it in SYS-CONF on the memory card. I've been using the Reality Media Player, and the MASS storage has been working fine. However, when using SMS, it just freezes on 'Locating USBD.IRX...'. I've tried using different versions of USBD.IRX, and I currently have version 1.4 (found by using USB Checker.exe) from Killzone, but it still freezes. Reality still works with this version, so I don't know what the problem is.
Please help!
Cheers

Excellent, it works fine now! Many thanks for that. How come some USBD.IRX work for some people, but not for others?
Again, cheers for helping!

Hey guys,
Just share my experience. I got the USBD.IRX from uLaunchELF and it works fine with my USB HD. Let's checkout the package of the latest uLaunchELF.

Good news !! but i cant find it, there's only usb_mass.irx..
I've got a Connectland "All in One" USB card reader who works perfectly with uLE 3.94.
In SMS 1.7.5 the USB icon appears but i can't acces it (freeze).
So i take different USBD.IRX found around but no luck.
What i understand :
-If SMS see the USB storage, the USBD.IRX buildin works.
-It freeze when it try to read on, so USB_MASS.IRX hangup.
I take the USB_MASS from uLE 3.94 and compiled a new SMS with it ( played with SMS DATA.c and .h etc ) and there's no luck it's not compatible again..
So i see on SVN that herben have make some update on USB drivers, especially USB_MASS, that's maybe the issue ?
Thank's for help ! ( dlanor, ep, EEUG ..)

I had the same problem (worked fine in uLE, froze in SMS1.7.5) . I got a 34kb USBD.IRX from eMule which seems to work fine.

Maybe an USBD problem but the strange thing is that SMS see my USB multi card reader, the controler in fact, but it freeze when it try to read the SD card inside : the light show up and it freeze...
I think there's a problem with this type of usb mass reader because the access is in 2 step and not directly :
1- Access to the USB controler
2- Read the media into the slot ( SD CARD in this case )
SMS access via USB_MASS is too speed and dont wait enough ( or not at all) the response of step 2 (USBD in this case), this issue is apparantly solved in the latest USB_MASS on SVN..
USB_MASS from uLE is not compatible with SMS ( modified maybe ? ) and i can't compiling the version on SVN.. ( grrr i'm not expert, error 1 or something )
I'm sure it's possible to make a beta release with the latest USBD.IRX and USB_MASS.IRX from the PS2DEV SVN and solve many error like this ..

A couple of weeks ago, I had the same problem as you described.
Well, for a USB HDD, it's not a matter of USBD.IRX, but a matter of the format of your HDD. Just use FAT32, and it'll be fine
For a SD card or a pendrive, it's a different story. maybe has something to do with USBD.IRX
