Question

Hd_Gui works only with Pal Games...help


wassup dudes!!! one question... I have a ps2 slim silver NTSC with a matrix infinity chip, and I used ULE to load the Hd_Gui, and the Memory card emulator and when it told me to change disc,I put the game disc and it said: wrong image file.Then I saw that it could be that ps2 didin't read the disc because the lid opened for the disc change,so I opened the play and covered the sensors with scotch tape so that the ps2 didint find out that the lid was opened in the disc change.
Then I used ULE to load the Hd_Gui, and the Memory card emulator and when it told me to change disc,I put the game disc and it said: Image file found and it worked perfectly but only with PAL games.
When i put a NTSC game, the Memory card emulator it reads the disc but it starts to load the sreen goes black.
I would like to know if there is a way to fix it????

Hey.

I'm not really dead as you can see.


I'm back here after a long working summer out of home, and i'm working on rewriting part of the program to improve compatibility.


I've add some modification proposed by ffgriever to improve saving/loading speed from/to vmc.


I've also rewrite hdd modules to 'compress' them to acceptable size. I hope that can improve sensibily game compatibility.


Most important i finaly learn 'iop update' trick thanks to ffgriever.
I really want to use this trick in my loader to improve game compatibility, and to stop using 'fakeboot' module which use some iop space for nothing.


Finaly, i let 'combo button trick' to wish list for the moment, but ffgriever show us that possible, so why not some day if he help me again. ( and again, and again, ... )


I'm currently preparing a new release, with those change. Hope that can be ready in a week or two.

^ good suggestion

iv'e used this once or twice but the whole editing the iso to use with hdloader is kind of a pain isit that it has to be like this or are you working on a version where the memory card will be looked for on the usb drive? or maybe you could incorporate this into hdloader somehow (if at all possible ) anyways good to see your back and good work ^_^

Not for the moment.

There is no plan to merge HDP in ESR or ESR in HDP.


ESR is a really great program, but developpement of such utility take a long time, and require lot of efforts, so until ESR stay as is credit goes to ffgriever.
That's why I understand him totally if he don't want to see his code use in other applications.


So, ESR is a standalone program and will stay as is.

First of all HDP was started with the intention of create a free homebrew hdd game loader, and that's still the final goal.

When and if that happen a day, using virtual mc will only be an option of HDP.


Working on a version which could be incorporate in HDL or something not envisaged for now. Sorry.

actually i hope it takes a long time - the optional features hdp gains on the way are much more interesting ;-)

Actually ffgriveres is gonna release ESR source when it is enough stable and those things.

Also, he already has a working hdloader of his own, still in a very early stage, but working.

I wonder if the day will come when we see an app which combines ESR, HDL, HDP and the psx emulator (can't remember the name now).

I've never said I have hdloader of my own. I just said, that I've ripped hdloader's IOP core some time ago and combined it with ESR's EE core to make some tests (quite promising I say).

Sorry to bring the bad news... But cheer up, the situation is not as bad as someone might have thought.

I didn't remember exactly what you posted, I just kept the idea you had succesfully launched a game from the hdd without using hdloader itself.

Those are not bad news, but I wonder if using ESR's EE core improves compatibility. Well, time will tell, and if it doesn't, the time will come for a 100% pc ps2 emu...it's just a matter of time (maybe a bunch of years)

Hey.

I got it.

Game compatibility is really increase. ( near 100% of my 40 games )



Here a description of major changes:

- mcemuloader is now loaded at 0x90000.
- mcemuloader hook SifSetDma and SifSetReg syscall to catch reboot request, and to query of iop synchronisation.
- When SifSetDma catch a reboot request, it call a new reset iop function which use updboot 'trick'. ( Call rom:UDNL directly with IOPRPxxx image as parameter )
- When iop is synchronized, syscall hooks are remove. ( This need to be done to run game normaly)

That's why i say near 100%, because some game reset iop 2 times, in this case mc emulation is stopped, but game work fine.


I plan to release my work this week, but i have some other points to improve first.


I need your opinion.

In dump/flash function HD_Gui can use image files with or without ECC datas.
But PCSX2 can only use image with ECC, and mcsioemu module only without ECC.
Thought, i can implement ECC handling to our module.

I think it's not a good thing to allow 2 form for our vmc file.


So do you think it's better:

1: To keep Romz format ( with .mci file ) and emulate completely ECC data in flash/dump modules ?

2: To use pcsx2 format and implement ECC calculation into mcsioemu module ?


In any case that need some work.
With first choise, i need to remove some options in HD_Gui, and some code in dump/flash modules. And someone can maybe wrote a little win prog to convert our vmc file to pcsx2 format.
With second choise i need to add ECC handling to mcsioemu module.

For me it's easier to let pcsx2 out of HD_Gui dev, but i think users prefer choise 1.

So ???



Last point, i got a 'Combo button trick' working with some game, ( And only if Ps2 is booted with FMCB ) using some code from 'Artemis Project', but that's not reliable, so no way to include it in v1.8.
