Originals and backup movies doesn't even need a modchip to boot. Can we see a picture of your installation? I think you should check the ground and power wire. Make sure that you're burning your games as slow as possible on good cd/dvd media.

Angry

cheers to7n,
reference to the movie backups was just to rule out over adjustment of dvd pot, all backups are on ritek gen 3/4 for ps2 & ps1 are on kodak golds, all burnt at 2x,am a great believer of copyin at 2x max (saves a lot of coasters).have added 2 pics of install gone over everything with a fine tooth comb & multi meter but still cant find n e thing wrong. changed 3.3v location to 5v with diode inline, on bootup of originals it comes up with matrix bios on playstation 2 screen, put backup ps2 in & get dreaded rsod, & ps1 backups recognised as audio tracks, have also added the 'h' wire even tho its not required (pal) as read in another post it overcome similar probs. revert back to original 3.3v source & bootup logo is minus matrix so its obviously not gettin enough power for the chip, n e more thoughts

Could be a bad chip because your install looks fine. I ordered 10 MX4's and 3 of them were bad. Were you able to disable the chip by holding the start button upon powering up?

MX4's are compatible with V13s. I've installed them in two V13's before. The symptoms were the same for me as well.. installation looked fine, chip can be disabled, and only booted originals then I swapped it out for another MX4 but left the installation wires the same and it worked.

This is probably not related but I thought I'd throw this out there anyway.

It does sound like you have a pwr issue. I would try connecting a diode 1N4148 to the 5v pwr point on the ps2 board and pwr point on the mx4, i have attached a picture of it.

Thumbs up

aerofx ur a star, spot on. been back & forth checkin their web, even e-mailed with regards to problem & they came back with the diode solution + 5v feed for the chip, havent bin on their site for the past 72 hrs otherwise would have spotted it. got 2 mx4's, 1 is installed in the v13, & put a new one into a v7 & that came up with the same result (rsod). was just about to bin the chips & thro the ps2's outa the window, came online to read posts, ripped out the chip from v7 & lo & behold its the matrix cockup, just hope the v13 chip is the same.
thanks to all for your input, will let u know how i get on after sortin the chip out

Thumbs up

just to let u all know that the problems are now sorted it was the chips that came from their faulty batch just a bit strange that they both came from the same supplier almost a month apart & its supposed to be their best seller.(maybe they got all the bad ones).
