anyway to use just hdd with a dvd drive broken and infinity chip

As the title states, sort of, I have a version 9 ps2 that has a matrix infinity in it.

I need to still be able to play games and such on it, but the dvd drive broke, completely broke...

Is there any way to setup the hdd and just ftp games over without the disc drive working?

Yes, but you will need to have at least one working ps2 to setup memory card exploite... I think that this is correct but could be wrong, you will have to do a search or wait for someone who really knows...

I have just been out of the scene for so long, figure that there has to be a way to get it setup without a dvd drive nowadays.

Would be possibly willing to pay someone to set this up for me, actually for a friend that is having trouble with his ps2.

you need to use a working ps2, chipped preferably and run launch elf, if you know how to use this, in mc0 you need to make a dir called boot/ and in it you need to put boot elf, this boot elf is in fact hdloader elf just renamed boot.elf. matrix chip will run
mc0. boot/boot.elf when you hold r1 on startup so whatever elf you rename boot.elf it will run
