Matrix Infinity Not Playing PS1
I recently installed a Matrix Infinity 1.0 mod chip into my V7 PS2 but it will not play original or burn't PS1 games. The screen goes black for about 30 seconds, then it goes to the red tunnel saying that it needs a real game. When I play PS2 games though, the PS2 logo pops up and tells me Infinity 1.0 on the bottom right side and the game plays fine. I haven't tried a burn't PS2 game because I don't have any yet.. (I am deployed on a ship) Can someone please tell me if I have done something wrong. Thank you.

No, I haven't tried upgrading the firmware yet. Where/how can I do that. Once again, I am on a ship.. so it will be hard to download it. Can you e-mail me the files if they are over 1mb? I know for the xbox's I cant dl bios files because they are only accessible via mIRC, and we cant use that here. If you could send me the upgrades though, that would be great. thanks

one other thing.. when i power on the PS2, it takes about 30 seconds for it to actually come on. The lights come on, but the blue intro tunnel wont start for about 30 sec... and ideas?

I forgot to ask, do you have a REAL MI or is it a clone? If you have the REAL MI, then read on, otherwise STOP! DO *NOT* UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE. Find out what type of clone you got. I should've caught this before, but in your first post you said that you got a MI 1.0. I know that modbo's go by version numbers like that. The real Infinity's don't have version numbers. (The FW is upgradable so stating the version doesn't really do much.)
Again, don't do this until you are sure you have a real MI. You know how to burn bin/cue files? If you got Nero, goto File > Open > Select cue file to burn.
As for the 30 second thing, upgrade firmware first and see if it still happens. Who knows, the firmware might fix it.

hmm... thanks.. i am not sure if it is a real one or not... it looks EXACTLY like the all of the pictures online and on the back of the chip, it has "infinity" plated on the it, so i am pretty sure that it is the real deal.. but to make sure, please tell me how i can find out.

One simple way to know is how much did you pay for it? There is another way here: http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/show...4&page=1&pp=15
But once you do that, your chip is dead. If you paid around $20 USD or less, then you have a clone, if you paid $45 USD or more, you are likely to have a real infinity. Also where did you buy it from. Some of the members might be able to tell you if that particular site has been selling clones.

i cant get to a config menu though.. i tried holding tri and squa together, and nothing happens.. just regular boot.. but if i hold just start down, i get a disabled screen. if i hold tri down, it goes directly to the mem manager... ??? I also tried the DVD trick, and it work like it was suppose to. Is it real or fake?

Okay, I played around with it yesterday and this is what I came up with.... First, I can't find a config menu anywhere. I tried holding every button down, and the only ones that do anything are these...
START - Disabled the chip. It gave me a Disabled screen with "Infinity 1.0" below the disabled
TRI+SQUA - Takes me to the mem manager
TRI - Takes me to the mem manager
That is it. Also, when I disable the chip, I can play original PS1 games. I downloaded the firmware upgrade yesterday, and went ahead and burnt it and tried loading it and It wouldn't load. At the mem manager screen, it tells me it is a PS2 disc, but when I launch it, it goes black for about 5 seconds, then right back to the mem manager. I am not sure what is going on here, and I would really appreciate some help. Now, I did convert the BIN file to an ISO, and that might have been the problem, if so, I will dl Nero tonight. If anyone has any ideas, please help me.

Yeah, if you converted it from a bin to iso then there might be a problem. I know there are some stupid programs out there that convert the bin file automatically thinking it's a MODE1 image, it's actually MODE2.
If the program you converted with asked you for the cue file then the conversion should've been ok. (The cue file contains infomation on how to burn the bin.)
If the program asked you for the bin file then the program screwed it up.
So download Nero and burn it with that.
Why isn't anyone else reading this. I don't have a lot of experience with different modchips. There are other guys in this forum that know a lot more about modchips.
NOTE: I just read a post about PS1 games. If the SECX point is not soldiered properly, the PS1 games won't play. So open it up and see that it is properly soldiered.
If no one answers your question in the last post, private message some of the active members. You've given enough information for someone experienced to tell you exactly what chip you got. I'm new to this modchip scene...I wasn't here when the 1.0 firmware came out so I don't know if they had a config menu back then or not.

well... i flashed the firmware, and everything went okay with the flash... but... still doesn't play ps1 games. also, the TRI + SQUA doesn't get me to a menu. Everything still works the same, nothing has changed, just the version number, and when I first power it on, I get the Matrix logo. I am going to crack it open and see if any of the wires might not be properly connected. In the mean time, if anyone comes up with anything, let me know.
BTW I can play original PS1 games if I disable the chip before.

after i reviewed the soldering layout for the chip installation, the scex point was the b!tch point that I had trouble with soldering. I really wasn't sure if I had a good connection on it or not, so I will be going it to fix that, and I will go ahead and use a lower gauge wire. Once again, I will let everyone know the outcome.

Yeah, same here, I had trouble just prepping it with soldier, but that's another story I'll write after I get my Infinity. I'll even post some pics.
