Question

What's the best PS2 version to use with Matrix Infinity?

I was told by someone here selling pre-modded ps2's that version 9 (SCPH 50001) is the best version to modify with the Matrix Infinity, but I don't believe him. I have to find out soon because he's going to start the mod tonight or tomorrow. I wanted to get a version 7 (SCPH 39001) which he also has at his store. Is there any reason why he would think v9 is better then v7 when modifying with the Matrix Infinity? I checked Matrix Infinity's site and it says their MX-L2 is compatible with v1 - v10. Before that version is their MX-L which only goes up to v7.

So which is better for the Matrix, v7 or v9?

I think the general consensus is that v7 is the most durable version for modding mostly because of the model of laser that they are built with are the most robust.

However, the main issue between a v7 and a v9 is the installation. A quick glance at the install diagrams for those two versions should reveal that the soldering points on a v9 are a bit trickier than the install points on a v7. Not a problem if someone else is installing the chip for you, but definitely something to keep in mind if you're doing it yourself and have a choice between the two. Besides the bios pin legs & pads, the v9 has 3 consecutive adjacent chip pin solders. The v7 doesn't have points like that (except for the bios chip)

Thanks for the info. Actually I believe he is going to install the regular version "Matrix Infinity" not the MXL2. I still don't understand why he insists on using a version 9. Guess i'll ask him tomorrow if he hasn't done the mod, although i suspect he will have already done it by then. I just hope v9 won't have any problems and isn't hard to setup with HD Loader.
