Matrix Infinity mod on V5 PS2
Hi modders! I have somewhat successfully installed a Matrix Infinity in my V5 PS2. I used Kynar 30awg wire for my connections and 22awg solid core wire for my ground and power. I can boot up my PS2 normally, check my memory card, and also get into config mode of the Infinity mod chip BUT I can't boot any original PSX, PS2, DVD, CD or backups. It'll read the discs and then just go back to the main PS2 boot screen. I know my laser works since I tested these before I modded my PS2. Any help on what points should I check.
I triple checked the solder points to make sure everything is good. My Matrix chip has the blue dot on it when I got it (if that makes a difference). Thanks for any help or advice that you can give.

Have you not yet flashed the chip with a bios? Doesn't sound like it.
Go to the Infinitymod.com website, enter the Infinity site, and then the Software page. Select the latest version of the bios, and dl it. Burn it to cd.
With that disc in the tray of your console, press and hold the power button for about 2.5 - 3 seconds. That'll put the chip in flash mode, and it'll prompt you to flash the chip.

I was wondering about that. Figured the blue dot chip came with the Bios 1.38 on it. Will burn and flash and cross my fingers

Hmm...burned Matrix Infinity Bios 1.39 on a CD-RW and Bios 1.40 on a CD-R but my PS2 won't read it or start the flash? I held the Reset button in for 2-3 seconds but still nothing. Am I doing something wrong here? Sorry, first time modding a PS2.

Ok, I was able to flash the bios to 1.40, it said to press start to begin programming and then it finished. So I put in an original DVD game and turn off the console and power back up but it still doesn't load and games?

My originals worked before modding and I was able to read my CD-R to flash the bios. I opened it back up to check all my solder points and cleaned the board of any flux or loose solder. I get no black screen, lights are normal on the PS2, I can get into config screen, disable chip, and flash bios BUT still no originals or backups boot.
Funny thing is I have an extra brass colored screw left that I have no idea where it goes. Also, I soldered H (what does this point do?) on my Version 5 board. Should I have as it doesn't show on Infinity's site but I found on other sites? When I boot, I don't see an Inifinity logo below the SCEA, should I?
Any suggestions?

Whenever you put any disc there will be Infinity 1.38 under Playstation 2 logo under it and then Matrix logo will appear then it'll boot your game.In this case I suspected maybe your 3.3V solder point is the problem.Try to use an alternative 3.3V point.Refer to ***3 or ***4 pro installation diagram.I use their 3.3V point to solder my MI with my V5 PAL machine.

Looking through some of the posts on this forum. It appears it may be a bad 3.3V solder point. Will try another point, using the ***3/4 points. Thanks.

Alrighty, I am boggled?? I redid my 3.3V point using the ***3 point and redid my GND to the outside edge of the board (short wire) and reflashed the BIOS to v1.39 but I still don't get the Inifinity logo?
I read another post earlier where the guy didn't connect the 3.3V and his chip worked (but I find that hard to believe).
Anyone else experienced this problem? I can't load any DVD/CD originals or backups. But, I can flash the bios...hmm
Many thanks, modders!

and how did it go ? u done it already? am crossing my fingers too lol !! :P.
and about that H wire, don't solder it m8, it aint on the install pic's, i soldered 5 MI chips, and it is of no use in any mod!
get it out, and try that too. Also, use short wires for the - and +, altough this aint the problem i think, becuase the chip does work, if it doesn't get enough power, it will do nottin,
Loose the H wire m8

Ok, everyone or anyone that's helping me, many thanks Attached are 2 pics of my install, hopefully it's clear enough and zoomable (1024 x 768). This is the lowdown:
1) V5 NTSC PS2 w/Matrix Infinity
2) Used ***3 3.3V point and GND to edge of PS2 board
3) Boots up to PS2 logo fine, able to open drive tray, can enter config mode, able to read my CD-R and flashed okay, can disable chip
4) No Matrix Infinity logo on bootup under PS2 logo
5) Won't read any original DVD or CD PS2 discs and/or backups
Broodje - desoldered the H point from chip and board
P.S. - I do have one bronze screw left over after assembly/disassembly of my PS2 4 times. Still have no clue where it goes. I will LMAO if it's a grounding screw that's causing all these problems.

Ok, I flashed my bios with version 1.45 and the boot Matrix Logo comes on (new with v1.45) but still doesn't load any CD/DVD originals. I held the RESET in until the BLUE light came on and it read my CD-R with the new Firmware. I can hear my laser trying to read any originals but no luck. Gonna have to remove the chip to make sure my laser isn't burnt. Funny thing is it will read my CD-R and audio CD's.

It sounds like your chip is working ok.
Maybe its your dvd drive itself.
I would try removing the chip to see if originals load.

I agree with loy, remove chip and see if your lasers working properly, as far as your screw is concerned, with the top of and looking from the front there is 2 screws in controller port, 1 in between fan and power switch, 1 to the left of power switch and 1 that hides under the power switch, these are all accessible from the top and then there is 4 shorter ones for the power supply, hope that helps you find it. Spare parts left over are never a good sign lol
