V4, Matrix Inf. Programming Failed?

i modded a v4 with a infinity, and when i turn it on normal, the screen stays black (also with controller plugged in), but when i turn it on by pushing the power button until the blue eject led turns, and put in the upgrade cd, it will start booting, and finally boot the cd (v1.38)...
but when i press start to flash the chip, it says programming failed!!
can any1 help me out on this!

Are these genuine Infinitys or clones ? 'cos clones can't be flashed or altered. If they are genuine, you've probably got a wire in the wrong place or something - can you scan your installation for us ?

thx for all your reply's
i've switched chip with an already working flashed one but still with the same result, i get a black screen on boot, but it still is possible though to load the upgrade cd when turned on by pressing the power button for a long time!! but i won't try that because the chip is 100% properly flashed...
i guess i'm gonna remove the chip and see how it works then tommorrow, but any more help is wanted...
(btw these are genuine matrix infinity chips)

tug on the bios wires (on the chip and the pads), if they come off resolder until they cannot be pulled off.

There's definitely a wire that's in the wrong place. Can you scan your installation for us to look at ?

i know shortening the wires could help the problem, and offcourse i will try that again, but i'd tried that also on my previous v4 with that problem (i also used thicker wires for Power and Ground) and it didnt solved the problem,
most off the times i place the chip about there, and allways works.....
thx for your help...

OK, couple of things. First, the Ground and power need to be shortened. You need to use alternate points for v3 and GND, check around with an ohm meter. And yes, you need 22 ga wire or better for power and ground. Also, point Y needs to be 24 ga, as that is used for clocking and effects the firmware update (along with everything else). Be careful with this, it's easy to lift the point off the mainboard when soldering a thicker gauge wire. I'll try and get a pic posted for you of a Matrix in V4 if I have one...

gortizone, are you sure? I wouldn't try to do that. Where did you get that point from?
Also, make sure you're burning your cds at 8x max. v4 could have problems reading by now... if you haven't changed the laser yet.

There are probably a hundred Y points on any mainboard, it's only used as a clocking signal. Data is sent from the mainboard to the chip, nothing from chip to Y point. And as luck would have it, I just modded a V4 Matrix system minutes ago. I have a pic on the install attached. Use the ground that I used, it's much closer to the chip. Also, notice the 22 ga wire for power and ground, this is essential. Y point should use 24/26 ga, the rest of the points use 30 ga. I'm guessing the main problem on this install is the Y point, but I would fix the power and ground as well.

Also, try and keep the wire for Y separate from the rest of the wires to reduce chances for interference.

ok, im back, from netherlands, big time difference
im gonna try a shitload of all the reply's i got, THX 4 all the help guys...
i noticed you "madisonmods" have a non-gap v4, the ones i had problems with are/where GAP bios versions... it doesnt need to make any difference, i installed it correctly, but like i said, im gonna try all the tips i got....
also must notice, when i put my ps2's back together,i offcourse insulate the chip and the wires, and lead them nicely around the board before putting the metal plate back....
