Very strange Matrix Infinity problem in V12 PS2...
Alright here's the deal, just installed a yellow dot Infinity in a V12 PS2. For some reason it refuses to read any backups. I know the chip is being detected as "Infinity V1.38" appears under the PlayStation2 logo when booting originals. I can access the Media Manager of the memory card by holding Triangle and can even access the configuration menu by pressing Triangle + Square. So everything works, except backups..
Any ideas?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

have you double checked all the wiring - sounds like a wire or two might be swapped around

Yeah that's the first thing I checked..routed all points with a multimeter to make sure they had secure connections. I'll rip everything out and redo the installation from scratch. Hopefully it's not a software issue..

What backups?Cd-r ,DVD-r or both?If if boots only on of those check the correspondent wires there is no need to check the bios ones. Also does it display the red screen or crashes while starting to load the game. Now if it doesn't boot both dvd and cd please check that you DO NOT HAVE THE HOMEBREW version. If you do flash it with the firmware that allows it to play backup.

Well it won't play ANY backups PS2 dvdr/cdr or PS1. I flashed it successfully with firmware V1.38 using a V9 PS2.
When booting original PS2 games (DVD and CD), I will get the "Infinity V1.38" logo appear underneath the "PlayStation2" one, so the chip is obviously detected. All backups go to the Red Screen of death...
Already tried reinstalling the whole thing and still no go..

I installed this chip in a V7 PS2 and it works fine. reflashed it with firmware 1.38 just to be sure. Reinstalled it in 2 different V12 systems and get the RSOD.
In all my years of modding experience, this is the first time I've had something like this happen..

could have to do with the y wire not being insulated (try using thicker wire, such as the stuff u use for pwr and gnd)

Used 20 gauge wire for the Y point and still same problem..
Is there an alternative 3.3V point I can use? Maybe this chip is just picky as to what voltage it deems stable.

Havent had a problem with this chip yet in a v12, Symptoms you are experiencing sound like you havent gotten the new firmware on there.. theres gotta be something wrong somewhere.. the 1.38 should support the v12, but try installing 1.36 first.. i noticed that 1.38 doesnt include the manager wich might be needed to use the chip. After 1.36 flash to 1.38.. post results.

Heh, that's what I had done originally. Had V1.36 on there first, didn't work. Swapped it into my V9 and flashed it to V1.38 with the same results..very strange indeed.
One thing I don't understand is, why would everything appear as though the chip is working correctly, and then not be able to boot any kind of backups, even PS1? if it were a firmware issue, then "Infinity v1.38" shouldn't appear under the PlayStation2 logo when booting originals right? I know the firmware is installed correctly since I can access my V1.36 Boot Manager from the memory card by holding Triangle at startup. Yellow dot chips such as this one aren't able to do this if they are homebrew, only blue dot on V12s.

I guess this chip just doesn't like V12 motherboards:/ I'd still like to know if there is an alternate 3.3V power point I can use before I uninstall everything for the 4th time. Haven't found one yet using my multimeter. Unfortunately, this is my last Matrix and none of my suppliers had any they could send me in time..Looks like the infamous DeMonS4 chip will find a new home after all lol.

I've seen this one time before. Usede another MI, with same wires, and all worked as it should.
Installed the "V12 bad" Infinity in a V9, and it worked in this machine ??
Didn't think more about this problem, before I read your post.

having this problem now too... we do these installs all the time so this is quite strange.
the newer v12's we have been getting look quite different then the first ones we were getting when slimline first came out.
im wondering if 1.38 [blue dots] are no longer compatible with the newer mobo's coming in v12's now?
the install is fine, even have the PIC fix installed in there too.. gonna take this out to see if that fixes anything becuase we dont know if these are even needed anymore...
any help is appreciated ; )
