False advertising
MAd Catz announce: The new GameShark also includes the Region Free DVD player, enabling the PlayStation 2 to play DVDs from every one of the six different regions
So that means that i can finally play my region 2 PAL DVD movies on my US PS2 machine, right?
If not than this is false advertising, because all people told me that it is impossible to play any PAL DVD movie on an US machine.
Any advice?

There is a difference between region-free and PAL to NTSC conversion.
US and Japan are on NTSC which is 29.97 frames per second. Let's call it 30.
Europe is on PAL which is 24-25 frames per second. Let's call it 24.
Thus for a PAL video stream to play on an NTSC television. You would need to upsamples the frames from 2:3. Which can be done. But isn't done by the PS2.
You would need a dual format television to watch the PAL. If your TV is NTSC only, you're still out of luck.
Just buy an Apex dvd player. It plays all regions, converts from PAL to NTSC and is only $60.

I know NTSC PS2 won't play back any PAL DVD. But there is one NTSC PS2 can play back PAL DVD-----30006R HK PS2. HK PS2 are base on NTSC J. But it can also play back PAL DVD. Tested already.

So why they claim that GS2 can play all 6 regions if i cant play any PAL Region 2 on my US PS2?? Or is there also a Region2 which is in NTSC format? I dont think so, what i know is that Region2 is PAL only.

Not to nitpick, but I didn't claim that the US PS2 would not play the PAL DVD.
What I said was it wouldn't convert the PAL video stream into NTSC. So if you have a PAL television it will play. If you have a NTSC television it will not be watchable. If you have a dual mode television, (like they sell in HK) it should be good.
(Actually they usually sell PAL/NTSC tvs for all over the world except for the US. Go fig? It's like a $5 chip)
Are you sure that the HK PS2 will do a 2:3 frame multiplication for ntsc televisions? if so, that's great!

DVD Region Free? LOL! It's already there since v2 !!
Mine's v2.21 and I tested that before and works pretty fine, even on v7 (dvd drive v2.12U).
The last one is v2.16 (v8).
I want codes for v2.13, 2.14, 2.15 and now v2.16.
Now if this player is independent from DVD driver (not need to go to browser and press X to play the DVD-Video disc), so is really something new and will be universal (compatible with all versions and models, even future driver releases).

Q: I tried zipping a Game save from GTA3: Vice City but it said ?This type of file unsupported?. I also
tried to copy it to another memory card but it came up with the same message.
A: Unfortunately, some game save data cannot be zipped or copied. This is down to the individual game and
some game save data will not be compatible with the GameShark Memory Manager.

Well that's very dissapointing

The wierd thing about all this is will this new Gameshark be compatable with Action Replay 2 and the old Gameshark? Three cheat code devices for the PS2. Action Replay 2, Codebreaker and Gameshark. This is getting very strange.

After looking at the manual that Gradius posted. I see some similarities in it and Codebreaker. Hmmm....

Oh God....why even bother with this POS???!!!
This is the part of the manual that cracks me up:
Quote:
Q: I have a two DVD movie and when I eject the first DVD to insert the second DVD the screen goes black
and does nothing.
Q: When Ifve finished watching one DVD can I put another straight in?
A: Due to the way DVD Region Free works you must always re-load it before playing any DVD. This includes the
2nd or 3rd DVD of the same movie.
|
Damn...so basically. If you're watching Lord of the Rings or any 2-3 disc movie, you have to stop watching the movie, reload teh GS2v3, then start your next disc.
Waste of time!

I not sure. I just know HK PS2 can play PAL DVD. But I think the output should be in PAL. Because I have a PAL/NTSC TV in HK.

I suspect this too (no dogle anymore) but I only believe when the thing is out, and I don't see that yet.
I'm dying for a rip of gs3 around
