What happened to PSX-SCENE?

Sometime last week our sql database, as well as a backup copy, was emptied of it's contents. We were not able to determine with certainty whether this was a server issue or a malicious attack but it is certainly suspicious. Regardless, more than six years worth of PSX-SCENE/WiiNewz forum posts were contained in the db and are now, for the most part, lost.

Once we realized how much data had actually been lost, there was much discussion among site staff on how to proceed. It became increasingly apparently that a fresh start was the best option. We realized that it would be extremely difficult for the site to maintain it's reputation having lost it's rich history. It was very clear, though, that we HAD to continue. Our mission has always been to provide our users with a community they can depend on and we would be doing all of you a disservice if we just abandoned the site.

A database backup was found dating back to July of 2007. Our hope was to restore it so that the site's long history in the PlayStation scene could be archived. Unfortunately, we ran into many stumbling blocks. It was decided that our best plan of attack would be to separate PSX-SCENE and WiiNewz into their own individual sites. This way WiiNewz, which would be starting with a mostly fresh database, could be restored much quicker. The PlayStation forums, requiring much more restoration work, could be worked on later.

Welcome to the new PSX-SCENE. We humbly request that you help restore the site to it's former glory by posting any information you think may be helpful. We know many of you have, in the past, contributed a wealth of valuable information here and hope will you will continue to do so in the future. Because of the data loss, any users who registered AFTER July 2007 will have to re-register. If you have any suggestions on other ways we can help you, our loyal users, to bring WiiNewz back to life please feel free to post in the Site Issues/Suggestions forum.
