Question

n00b here... please be kind...

Well, here I go,

Let me start by saying that I rarely post in forums because I do know how to use them. Also, I do realize that this question has probably been asked and answered many times over, but maybe not exactly this way... so ...

My setup - FATPS2 no chip, I can boot off the MC with a PS1 disc to the HDD using HDLoader. Works great!

Now, what I'm looking to do is be able to transfer files to the HD without disassembling the PS2 every time. So, over my LAN.

I have read, and read, and read some more and have found a lot of very good guides out there and on these forums too. But I would like to be able to do this without losing my function of booting HDLoader with that PS1 disc. The gear on disc eject is b0rked, so pulling the disc out requires taking the chasis apart too (more probs... ).

All in all, what I'm thinking of setting up would require me booting HDLoader off my MC, and being able to swap files with my PC. Or, if I could swap my MC with another one (I have 2 - maybe boot FMCB or something?) to be able to swap the files. Am I or can this be done? I have downloaded Lord Bogami's (sorry if this is spelled wrong) GUI for HDLDump, but have no idea what to do with it. I know there's a server part to put on the PS2 HD too, but don't know where to put it, or how to start the server... (unless it's always running )

Anyways, I know how frustrating it is for dummies who ask questions that have been answered, but please go easy on me, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

There are many ways to achieve what you want.

BTW lordbogamy's gui is outdated, better use vtecorona's, u can find it at this forums.

Easiest way:

Just make a bootable iso file from hdldump's hdld_svr.elf (you can hex edit it to make the ip settings match yours, as that's easier than creating the config file).

The just boot it from hdl and transfer your games.

Complicated way:

Make a bootable iso from ulaunchelf (there are downloadable ones at ule's thread, outdated, but would do fine for this). Transfer it, boot it and modify your current exploit to make it boot ule. From ule you can boot either to hdloader or hdld_svr.elf, you can setup it with a timer so it normally just boots straight to hdl.

FMCB way:

Make a bootable iso from ulaunchelf (there are downloadable ones at ule's thread, outdated, but would do fine for this). Transfer it, boot it and make a normal fmcb instalation from a usb drive to your other MC.

Then with that homebrew enabled mc you may like to have some useful homebrew like ulaunchelf, hdld_svr, and other things u may find usefule. Using fmcb has the pro that you can boot hdl without a disc in the tray (if hdloader is properly patched for your setup).

Hardcore way:

Mod your NA so you connect your hardrive externally. Very useful, I have it like that. Just note that the IDE cable can't be longer than 25 cm (don't really know why). Mine is 20 cm.

Ok, that sounds veeerrry interesting... almost too easy!

I should mention that I was wrong in my original post, it's actually HDAdvance, not sure if that makes a diff. But, thanks for the tip... now to figure out how to do it... hahaha

I do have a HexEditor HxD and WinHex but creating the .iso... just use any proggie like Imgbrn?

Thanks again
