Regardless of attention bumping this shortly is mostly meaningless.

As for making Sony software accept a normal HDD as being an official Sony drive, the only known method is to have a modchip with ATAD-patching. (eg: DMS4pro, MI, possibly others I never had).

That is correct. It has no bearing on how to force a non-Sony HDD into being accepted by all (unmodified) software and firmware as being a genuine Sony PS2 HDD.

The file you found only allows the normal ATAD.IRX driver used by Sony programs to be modified so as to make that driver accept a normal HDD as if it were a genuine Sony HDD.

But that really solves nothing, as you then have to extract/replace that IRX driver in any Sony program (or commercial game) that you want to recognize your HDD. And in the cases of firmware extensions like Sony's HDD Browser that is not possible, as those files are encrypted in a way that we still can't completely decrypt nor replicate. We might be able to trick the console into doing the decryption for us, but we could still not re-encrypt the file after the modification, so the console would never accept using the modified file.

The patch you found may still be of limited use to those who want to experiment with games that have HDD support, like 'FFX International'. (I've tried it with ATAD-patching, so I can definitely state that using HDL is better.) But those who try it should be very careful in checking that they have an HDD setup similar enough to Sony's to work. The most important limitation to remember is that the Sony drivers only implement 28-bit LBA, while homebrew stuff also implements 48-bit LBA, as needed for HDDs larger than 128 GB. So using Sony drivers on a larger drive may at best just lock up, but may at worst corrupt the HDD contents beyond all recognition...
