How to use HDL Dump to install games over network
I see alot of posts in this section asking on how to use HDL Dump to install games over a Ethernet cable. A few advantages of using this process:
Much faster installs, HDL Dump GUI v1.4 gets up to 3000kb/s speeds, while HDLoader maxes out at around 1200kb/s. The program also has a very clean and simple interface. All you need is:
HDL Dump GUI v1.4
(Vista users: Download and extract the files in this zip to your HDL Dump folder. You can get it below.)
A PS2 connected to your computer via Ethernet
A PS2 with a mod chip or a way to boot ELF's, such as Free MCboot or the PS1DRV exploit. You also need HDLoader (head over to sksapps) + HDD, and the HDL Dump Server that starts the PS2 side server so your computer can connect to it.
First, boot up the PS2 with the HDLD server elf. You will hear the hard drive start up, and after about a minute or so of loading, it should display a Ready at the bottom of the HDLD log, displayed on the TV. Now you can connect to the PS2, which is default 192.168.0.10. If you are on a router, you will have to make a IPCONFIG.DAT file, but I have gotten it to recognize my IPCONFIG.DAT made by uLaunchELF. For reference, my PS2 is on IP 192.168.1.10, and my PC is 192.168.1.2, since my WRT54G router(DD-WRT FTW!) is 192.168.1.1. I chose to put the PS2 on 10, since I really don't think more than 8 people will be using it at the same time
(NOTE: If your router supports it, go ahead and enable DMZ to increase speeds. If DMZ isn't enabled and you are using a router, expect about a 60% performance decrease)
When the HDL Dump GUI starts up, type in the PS2 IP address. Click "Refresh PS2", and it should connect. I like to click the "Show HDL Dump Activity" check box to see if it's doing anything. Now, once you are connected, you can insert a PS2 CD/DVD in your disc drive, or you can choose to use ISOs. There is no noticeable speed difference with ISO vs disc, but I like to use the discs, no need to waste the extra 10 minutes making an ISO that you will just delete later. Go ahead and click Browse, Backup and Delete. On the right, you will see the games installed to your HDD. Here you can copy over the games to your PC, delete them from the PS2 HDD, or just look at them. The Job Queue is self explanatory.

I had everything working fine on the XP machine. I made the switch to Vista & can't get this to work now. I'm getting the error message of:
"Runtime Error '339'
Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or on of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid". Does this mean that the .cfg(configuration) file is the problem? I am using HDL_Dump GUI14 from PC & HDL_SVR 0.8.5 from PS2 but I can't use it all due to the runtime error on Vista.
I never got this with the XP machine. What's missing or invalid? I have a folder called HDL GUI14 with the files from the HDL_Dump GUI14 inside just like I did on the XP machine but can't get it to work. The 3 files are "hdl_dump,hdl_svr.elf,& hdldumpgui14". It seems to me that a .cfg file is supposed to be somewhere but it's not in this folder. Thanks!

Download and extract these files into your HDL Dump folder. I will include this on the guide.

I wish people would just attach files on the forums instead of using a file share like file send, rapidshare, or megaupload. it's getting annoying checking links all of the time and waiting on these delay's.

are you running as administrator and xp compatibility? if not, try that. if you are, it may be either a bad download on your part or it may be just completely uncompatible with vista.

Windows won't let me do it. I get the diagnostics error from WINRAR when trying to extract them to either folder.

Yes, I am running Vista as 'administrator'. Is hdl_dump GUI14 compatible with Vista like I was running on XP? It's not a bad download either because I've tried other .OCX as well with same problem! This is crazy unless it's all for nault with Vista!

I finally got hdl_dumb 0.8.6 to work right! Yeah! It still gives the error message of "No Device detected" when starting from PC even though I have hdl_svr(0.8.5) started on the PS2 with correct settings. However, once hdl_dumb is started I can hit "Attach" from the window & it works.
I didn't have any problems with this stuff on the old XP machine. Oh well, at least I got it working for now. I still like hdl_dump better because that's what I was using on the XP rig but I'll stick with hdl_dumb because I got it to work finally on this Vista machine. Thanks guys!

Yeah! IT WORKS & that's what I want so no biggy. However, my old XP machine never gave me any errors or problems with hdl_dump period. I only sparingly used hdl_dumb back a good while ago. I had been using hdl_dump to transfer games over the network for quite some time & hadn't used hdl_dumb in at least a couple years. I'm just happy to get it working. Thanks!
