Toxic OS 0.41 installing elf files on harddisk

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help me out here.
I am trying to install .elf files on my harddisk. I am using the Toxic OS 0.41.
Is there a way I can install .elf files on the Toxic OS harddisk the same way as I install games with WinHiip ???

My cd-rom is broken, and the usb stick is not working.

P.S. I think I can install .elf files if I put my harddisk in my friends PS2. His drive is working. But then again, if there is a tool available.....

Take a look at the dms installer scripts...
Then it would be fine.

@TherioN:
There is a program supposed to have the capability you need, and I think it is named something like "PS2 PFS Explorer", because it is able to manage files in PFS partitions (normal file partitions as opposed to HDL game partitions) of a PS2 HDD, while that is connected to a PC.

This should allow you to install various elfs, including uLaunchELF (aka: uLE), onto your PS2 HDD. After which you can reconnect it to the PS2 and use the elfs through the elf launching capabilities of ToxicOS.

The only problem with this, and one reason why I don't use the 'PFS Explorer' myself, is that it is famous for corrupting the partitions it is supposed to manage. Some people have still been able to use it for some specific task, but prolonged use supposedly always leads to corruption. So if you only use it the one time, and only for placing files in a single partition, there should be little risk to your HDD content.

So for your case I'd advice you to use it only to install uLE, and then set it up to allow you to use the "host:" device (network driver) to access data from your PC, provided that this is running a compatible HOST protocol client. The most popular clients for such use are 'RadHostClient v1.8a' and 'PS2ClientLoader 1.3.1', which latter also needs a ps2client.exe (a revision made specially for uLE is available in the uLE release thread).

With this HOST setup you can use the uLE FileBrowser to browse your PC shares almost as if they were stored on a PS2 HDD, except that the transfer speed is somewhat slower (only around 1450 KByte/sec). So once you have this working you never have to use the 'PFS Explorer' again, as everything new can be installed over network.

Best regards: dlanor

IDE ELFS & USB On Toxic OS

Hey how did you get your usb to work under the toxic os? and i am having the same problem with my optical drive. Its shot as well. So i am trying to figure out how to send things to my hard drive through my network so that i dont have to take my hard drive out everytime. Just wondering what you may have done to fix this problem.

Thanks.

You need to install a USBD.IRX driver into the chip's flash memory. This is done in the 'Files' section of the 'Settings' menu of ToxicOS, using the entry named "Choose USBD IRX driver".

Of course, even after doing this it is still a matter of the usual 'pot luck' whether your USB device will be compatible or not. It does work with several that I have, including my LaCie 320 GB USB HDD. As usual FAT32 is the filesystem to use with PS2 homebrews (which includes ToxicOS, despite its commercial nature).

Best regards: dlanor

Network Transfering.

One more question. If you dont mind. I have been researching and trying to make files and etc to make toxic os boot hdld_svr.elf and i cannot figure out what elf programs are the best to use. From what i gathered hdl_dump for pc and hdld_svr.elf for ps2 seems to be the one i guess but im not sure. I know im taking the long way around but my cd/dvd drive is shot, and i gave up on it about a year ago then realized that toxic os can boot games from hdd. but my main problem i guess is compiling the files together to get toxic os to boot the elf and let the games transfer.
