# Readme #

################################################## ###########################
HDL Dump Helper GUI is a graphical program, which helps to install PS2 games from a PC onto the PS2. Its based on the command line program hdl_dump and includes mostly all its functions in an easier way.
With it you can install PS2 games over LAN or on a locally connected PS2 HDD through IDE or USB. It also can list and edit the installed games from the HDD which is stored in your PS2. You also can copy the games back from the PS2 HDD onto your PC.
HDL Dump Helper GUI is coded in Java and therefore it works on nearly all OS (e.g. many Linux Distributions, Windows) except MAC OS, because there is no hdl_dump for MAC included.
The only thing you need is the Java Runtime Environment in the latest Version.
The program should be very self explaining because of its tool tips.
To start the GUI on Windows you can use the .exe file or just double click .jar file, which should also work when JRE is successfully installed.
If both things arent working then goto 'Start' -> 'Run' and type 'cmd'. Then switch to the folder containing the GUI using the command 'cd'.
Now type 'java -jar hdldh_gui.jar' and the GUI should start up.
To start the GUI on a Linux Distribution you can double click the bash-script ./launcher-linux if its made executable via 'chmod +x <file>'.
If you are in the console you can also type ./launcher-linux or 'java -jar hdldh_gui.jar'.
You also can create a desktop shortcut if you want. I included an icon which you can use for it in the '/files' folder called desk_icon.png. Just choose the bash script and the icon when creating a desktop shortcut.

Found a small typo:
it's "Soul Calibur 2" not "Soul Calibour 2" (talking about the fixes section)

Yeah, you're right, thanks!
I gonna correct that in the next version on which I am already working on, which will add the remote shutdown of the ps2 console and the possibility to add copy actions (from the ps2 hdd onto the pc hdd) to the job list, which makes it easier to get many games back on the pc.

Can it transfer files to and from folders made by the user on the HDD as I don't always want to use FTP with ULaunchELF to browse the folders on the hdd, I wanna be able to put my PS2 HDD in my PC and browse the folders as well having the normal functions of winhiip.

No it can't, since it's only a GUI for hdl_dump, which is desinged to transfer games to hdd to play them with HDLoader.
AFAIK, the only app out there capable of copying files to various partitions is pfsshell, which can be found here: http://www.ps2-scene.org/hdldump/
BTW, FTP is not the best way to transfer files to the PS2, better use uLEs host function with PS2Client, which is not only faster, but also more stable than FTP.
best regards Jones23

./pfsshell
> help
> device 192.168.0.10
# ls
# mount +Misc
+Misc:/# ls

# umount
# exit

Why don't you use the compiled hdldumpX to get it working on MACOSX?
well, now I dunno if it was precompiled in the package.

With that i could make it compatible to MacOS, but i would have to change the GUI a bit, too. I would need to know how i can get the hdds and the cdrom drives and stuff. And i have no experiences with Mac and there's no Mac around on which i could try it ...

Device handling is pretty much like linux I think, at least at console level.

I must admit.. This version is top notch..
One of the most user friendly Dumpers out there..
However Im still having issues with the .90 serv .elf..
Im sure its just a port issue on my part..
Other then that great layout and keep it up..
Any word on upcoming releases?..
Later,
Scooter

Working wonderfully here as well on Ubuntu.
I'm really glad there's a Linux version. Not sure what can be improved though, as most of the functions are in there.
Higher throughput would be nice, but this is probably more of a PS2/hdl_srvr problem.

nomis,
Can you add a feature of shutting down a PS2 after completing a job list or even after installing a game over network?
Could you also add a shutdown button so you can shutdown the PS2 manually over network even if you don't install a game?
Thanks.

Suloky has implanted a soft reset feature with in hdld_svr .85 & .90 that you may be interested in..
Still cant reset threw the GUI but you can within hdld_svr...
