Largest HDLoader supported hard drive?

I'm thinking about buying one of these puppies:

1.5 TB hard drive. I wonder if HDloader would support this monster? I could probably fit the entire PS2 library on this thing...

Just make sure its available for IDE, as most are now only using SATA. SATA can be used in the PS2, but modifications are required for them to work.

i was considering on getting a Hitachi 1TB for around $400, but opted for 2 500GB HDDs for $129 each instead.

Are you aware you can buy 1TB drives for aroud $176?
Not IDE of course
Also you can get 500gb IDE dirves for a better price than that.

You know I bet if they made SATA to IDE convertors that are designed to clip on or fit inside the ps2 they would sell pretty good. They could be used in computers also so shapeing them like that would not harm there sellability. There are plenty of shitty generic companys that make these, one of them may want to consider it.

No you wouldn't be able to fit the entire library on it.

I'm sure there's over 1 thousand ps2 dvd games.

The Hitachi 1TB for around $400 i was looking at is actuall an IDE drive, not SATA. Yea, im aware that 500GBs drives are now cheaper than what i paid, but they werent back then.

So how do I go about using a SATA with the PS2?

I dont remember the post, but it was at Console-Exploits in the How-to forums. A few members there discussed modifications to make a SATA HDD work. It was 2006 or 2007, so try looking in those time posts. If i find it, i'll post a link.

First, yes, I realize the post I'm quoting is a couple of months old...

From what I understand, the size of the HDD is not the only limitation. Doesn't HD Loader only support 255 (possibly 256) games installed? Could someone verify this, or was this dis-information I'd read earlier?

While this thread is refreshed, if I remember correctly the PS2 library is somewhere around 3000+ games, and growing. Not that any of that matters since 255 games and 1 or 2 500gb drives should be over enough to satisfy anyone PS2 gaming needs.

Can you say "Over Kill"

It would make more sense to hold the images of the library on your TB drive and using a 100-500gb for games your are currently playing.

I do understand wanting to explore the possibilities though.

255 is a lot of games. I have a 300GB and a 400GB in my 2 PS2's.
On the 300GB I have 90 games and 15GB free.
On the 400 GB I have 70 games and 161GB free
The rest are on discs yet.
Really more games than I have the time to play, lol

Me, i prefer using a lot of smaller HDDs like; 120 - 200GB . The bigger the HDD, the longer it takes an app to read them.

I use the 2 500GB drives i bought for the PC to store all my ISOs.

I got the largest I could at the time, myself... I have a 500GB in the PS2, and a 500GB in the Xbox.

Yeah, I wanted to try and get the largest HDD (sata) I could and store all my files on it, and have a partion for PlayStation games. I know the easiest thing is to get two. One HDD would make life easier.
