Well, I tried running the app to get an idea of what I was looking at and to provide any feedback, but it turns out it won't load for me because Slackware 11.0's version of libc is too old, and I really don't feel like breaking dependencies in my system if I can help it .
HOWEVER! Slackware 12.0RC1 has been up for a week now, so soon I'll be able to run it and give feedback of my own.
And, before I do this, the old issue of installing via hdl_dumb/p vs installing with winhiip and having the hdd practically fall apart was ironed out long ago, right?

Oh yes that was fixed at least in 0.84 of hdl_dump. You can run the perl script manually, (instructions are at the end of the first page) since your on slackware you'd probably have to download and build the Tk Libs thru cpan.

That did it, it ran. I'll test it a bit later to see how it works.

Aaand it's not detecting my drive no matter whether I run it as normal user or root. Nothing I do makes it able to be detected, whether it's trying to mount it or just checking permissions.

Can you detect the drive with the hdl_dump utility? If not, you may need to reformat the drive in your PS2, I've had that problem before, where I deleted games, that didn't get properly deleted, and hdl_dump wouldn't detect the HDL partition on the drive until I reformated it.

Yeah, that was one of the first things I checked. Sorry I didn't mention it last post. That's one of the things that confused me, in fact. I tried doing all of this with the newer hdl_dump/b as well, since the precompiled one that came with the gui didn't run for me (glibc version, but now slack12 is out!), and it would detect the drive and read the TOC as well, but the gui just refuses to see the drive on /dev/sda.

sda, so you have it pluged thru the usb port? I wasn't able to test this myself, but I was assured it was working. Hurm... I'll have to check into it.

Yeah, it's working through a USB enclosure.
Also, one thing I forgot to ask, though this was not related to the HDD detection problem:
When you start the gui script it looks for the pix folder for icons and what have you. The problem is that I wanted to keep the gui itself in one place (my home folder, specifically) and use a custom launcher on my desktop for it for easy access. The problem came when the launcher would not work because it was running from a relative path to the script, but it was only pulling it from the folder the script was run from, so I had to edit the script myself to make it a hardlink.
Now, I tried using $HOME as a variable for a quick fix just for the hell of it, but that doesn't work, it has to use the full path. Is there a workaround for this or should it be a bug report or feature request?

I just downloaded this and tried running it, but it looks very ugly and I can not access everything of the app. Resizing does not work (I can't resize the window). What packages am I lacking? I am using ubuntu hardy heron
thanks in advance
Horscht
EDIT:
After extensive googleing, I found out that wizardofyendor released a 1.5 version of his tool (see http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...59&postcount=9 ). He also uploaded it here, but probably got lost during the database crash of PSX-Scene, so I am reuploading his file (unaltered, including source)

i have a similar if not the same problem.
i attach a local ide hdd, and the game list is so HUGE, that it uses more space than is available on the screen. no chance of resizing or accessing that area of the application.
any ideas?
Alex
EDIT: Workaround in Ubuntu for me:
- Set default Ubuntu Fonts to a smaller Fontsize. 8 worked for me

You need Perl GTK+/Glade support ( http://gtk2-perl.sourceforge.net/ ), some distributions have a libgtk2-gladexml-perl package (Debian and probably Debian based distributions).
