SCPH-30003 Fat PS2 Noisy. Possible Fix?

Hi fellas,

I've just purchased a hardly used 30003 model PS2 however coming from a slim it seems very noisy to me, is this usual?

Firsly the fan is annoying noisy, I understand this is common on the older ps2s. My question is, if I were to buy a broken PS2 model 50001 or similar and remove the fan from that and put it in mine would it be noticeable? I've heard the newer fat ps2s had much quieter fans. Also, how difficult would this be?

Another thing is there's some sort of vibration from the drive tray sometimes, like perhaps its loose or something. Is this a common problem, anything I can do?

And finally, the spindle motor that reads the discs, that seems rather loud too especially when loading. Is this a fact on these old ps2s? If I were to buy a 50001 or similar, would I be able to replace this part too and perhaps it would run quieter?

takes some modification, but use a fan from a SCPH-5000x system. done it to my v7 and it's been great.

I've done the same fan replacement on my PS2s. It's much quieter. The DVD drive tray and spindle noise problem are probably just due to wear. You can clean and regrease the tray, but the spindle bearings are sealed.
I recommend playing games that only work on discs on a slim v13 and higher and HDL compatible games on your Fatty. The older PS2s FATs only have third party replaceable lasers, which only work for certain laser types.
5000X FATs have a laser burnout problem that can only be fixed with a romeo mod (requires soldering). Slim v12 lasers had a similar problem. The slims are currently the only PS2 that has easily available official replacement lasers.
I usually buy used FAT v9 (5000X) PS2 that have disc read errors for $10-15 dollars on craigs. Then I just run HDL on them and play my disc on my slim. Only the FAT v9 (5000X) PS2s have the cool remote reset function to load diff games off the HDD without getting up to press reset.
I hope that info helps!
