Can PS2 work without laser and BA5815FM?

I have a V7 PS2 on my closet thats only collecting dust.
One day at look at it and it come to my mind that now it could be revive thanks to FMCB and a NA + HDD!!

But the thing is that i need some help in order clarify my mind:

The V7 have the BA5815FM blown up along with a blown fuse, the one near the BA5815FM and it has no lens at all. It doesnt turn on, only green light comes on, Fan's on and no display.

I dont mind having this PS2 without laser as i wont be using it for reading DISCs, so can the BA5815 be removed? not replaced but removed, in order to bring this ps2 to life again?

obviously i would have to replace the fuse, but i was wondering if i have to replace the BA chip, and do i have to put a laser in or can it life without it?

My unmodded v11 ps2 works exactly like that. I completely removed the laser assembly along with the four screws and that plastic thing that was holding it in place.I also removed the ribbon cables from the ps2 motherboard. It works just fine. The only problem i noticed is that it freezes when i try to access cdfs: from ulaunchelf. I recently got a NA and a hdd off ebay and all games work booting with free mc boot and hdloader 0.8c.

What do you think guys? I have a completely defunct LASER UNIT (V16 CHINESE).
Now I can't even get into Dev1! it just goes to the Menu...
If I could get FCMB instlled (SOMEHOW) then will my PS2 work without Laser??
I cat get HDD attached exept USB...but better than nothing!

A complet laser for the v16 is about 30 dollars.So why don´t you just change it

problem is...I dont have money for it nw...and I am not sure whether it's laser problem or
something else...everything works exept the LASER which is absolutley motion-lss no matter what...
