Are you sure the console are able to read that media you use to burn the patched games?
I have a 30001 and a 30001-R and neither will read any of my backup media anymore, due to the age and wear on the lens. They do read PS1 CDs, Music CDs, DVD movies and PS2 DVD games, but not PS2 CD games.

Well since i cant test what happens on my 30001 models i cant offer much help on this. It could possibly be a bug on that console if the patched discs work on other consoles and the console in question works with a different boot process.
Go to the Bug report thread in ESR forum and ffgriver {author of ESR} can help you with it much better than anyone else. Sorry, wish i could do more for you.

u might be using media which ur console can't support
like myself, a 30000 ntsc/j version ps2
changed 3 different brands of media oredi to make the console to read the disc finally
and for version this old like urs and mine,
it would be better to choose dvdr media with supported speed as slow as you can(1x-4x is the best)
my 30000 ps2 don't even read any 16x dvdr at all if booting up by itself (no problem with swap disc method modchip, strange~)

I have a 30001 PS2 and I just had to tweak the white gear in the back of the drive (that you see when you open the system) and it was able to boot all of my games perfectly with ESR. Before only a few would boot and others got stuck.

any more tips on pot tweaking in early consoles?
i have a 30003 that isn't reading any burnt stuff; when inserted while on the browser screen anything it does read brings up the "please insert ps2 disc" message, and it did this once for a Ritek G05 DVD-R, but since then I just get disc read errors on anything burnt. it's not exactly happy with PS1 / PS2 cds either though.

the SCPH-30001 version PS2 is known for some DVD-R playing issues, i have heard that the "official Sony remote sowtware" can fix that, i personally dont know coz i dont have that model, but i have the software cd, if anyone wants to test it i could try upload the iso in a rar file?

You cant attach or even link to "official Sony remote software" in these forums, its copyright material and a big no-no here.
