ESR - bug reports

Please, only bug reports in this thread.

Give as much details as possible:

Steps you took to make the image, patch it and burn. Console model and region, game name and region. Game ID and iop replacement image version it uses, steps that will be helpful to reproduce the bug, what colors flashed on screen and how many times (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, white).

I'll try to fix everything as soon as possible, but take a note, that I'm rather busy man.

Mods:

I have a favor to ask... could you delete (or move to the other topic) all unrelated posts in this thread?

Thank you.

Ok I dont know if I should post this as a bug.....

PS2 Model : SCPH 77006
Custom 75k DVDELF using Neme's 1.3 small loader using ffg's init.irx

I tried loading USBADVANCE as BOOT.ELF as mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF using the mc version. The screen flashed red,blue and then stayed on pink. No change....

FreeMCBoot version/elf: v1.4 / 75kb
ESR: DVD Direct.elf (v0.6b)
Console: PAL-E, PS2 SLIM SCPH-70004b
uLaunch 4.15, Disc Control ON

Game: Shadow Hearts
Region: PAL-E
Code: SLES_508.22
Patcher: Memento patcher v0.9b (i cant remember at all because i had another copy with the old memento patcher and i dont wich is wich, but i think it was the last patcher)
Media: DVD-R Verbatim 16x

Colors (it was hard to remember the colors because some are very fast!):
RED(very fast), BLUE(very fast), MAGENTA(slow), LIGHT BLUE(slow)

Result: It works but it gets a lof of time to load (like 30 seconds) till you get the colors and just then the game starts, but is very frecuent that it hangs up when you enter or finish a battle so it's not playable at all. I think it is good because it works at least and with Memor32 it did not work (i think that with memor32 the ntsc version works but not the pal version).

I'm not sure if this is a bug, or intended behaviour but when launching ESR via a key from FMCB 1.4b with 75kb dvdelf (R2 if it matters) then I just get a white screen, no other colours.

I've only tried one game - Tekken 5 USA, on a PAL 39003 console. Patched with memento patcher 0.9e.

If I allow uLE to load (R1 button) and then manually load ESR the game boots fine.

Game: Tekken 5
ID: SLUS_210.59 - IOPRP300.IMG

Scarface: The World is Yours (NTSC)

Free MC Boot v1.4 - Installed on Slim ps2 SCPH-75000 with DVDELF.BIN
Tested PS2s (NTSC) - Slim PS2 (SCPH-75000) and Fat PS2 (SCPH-39000R).
ESR: Public Beta 0.6b
Game Dumped/Burned with: Alcohol 120%
Patcher: Memento Patcher 0.9e
Iop Replacement Image: IOPRP280.IMG

SYSTEM.CNF
Code:
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SLUS_211.11;
VER = 1.00
VMODE = NTSC

Problem:
I don't know why it does this, but the magenta screen still hangs on loading the game for both my fat and slim ps2. No other colors are flashed, just directly shows magenta and sticks there.

Other notes?:
I don't know if this is helpful or not, but this game happens to be a "problem" disk when it comes to loading it with Swap Magic v3.6. If I wanted to load this game on my PS2, I would have to load Swap Magic and then Zone Loader, and then Scarface and it would run fine.

How I Made the Image:
Using Alcohol 120%, I dumped the game to my hard drive at maximum speed as a .ISO image, patched it using Memento Patcher v0.9e, and then burned it at 4.0x speed.

White screen at the very beginning of the start procedure means that either system.cnf or executable couldn't be found on the disc. It's either some initialization problems or something else plays tricks. But most likely this problem occurs because your disc isn't properly recognized to the time when ESR tries to read it. Try using the big dvdelf, this should delay the process a little bit and give the drive time to finish the recognition (probably a little bit worn out/dirty laser unit in your console or invalid calibration data written to nvram). If this is really the case, then it should be easily fixed by waiting for the disc to be recognized first.

[WORKING] Time Crisis: Crisis Zone

Working in r8 under DVDV Direct, DVDV Direct Off and MCard.

In versions prior to r8, hangs at black screen. Game is not compatible with HDLoader. The DVDV can be browsed in uLE. The image works in PCSX2.

*ESR06b, 07a, 07b, 8 both DVDV Direct and MCard
*SCPH-30002R PAL Oceania
*Time Crisis: Crisis Zone (SLUS_209.27 NTSC IOPRP.IMG)
*Free MC Boot 1.4, 75K, Light Loader
*Memento Disc Patcher 0.9e, Ripped with DVD Decrypter, Burnt with Nero
*Disc Media SONY08D1, Burned at 12X, Book Type DVD-R
*uLE 4.12 Disc Control ON

Last edited by skidbk; 06-22-2008 at 04:06 PM. Reason: Tested with r8

Thanks for that, I'll give the large dvdelf a try in the morning. I don't think it is the laser as it has virtually never been used (always used hdl on this console) and can play DVD-R's burned at 8-16x with no probs. if it is invalid calibration data is there anyway for me to fix that?

thanks again

I have an unmodded V3 NTSC U/C PS2 that I use the PSX exploit to run homebrew on. I installed FREE MCBOOT 1.4 onto a Sony 8 MB Memory Card.

I burned a copy of Kingdom Hearts II to a DVD+R disc. I used uLaunch through the MCBoot exploit to run "ESR beta r6b dvdv direct.elf" with my patched DVDV disc inserted. When it runs I get a white blank screen.

Any clue what is going wrong? I am new to this Free Vast homebrew stuff. Thanks for any help.

Did you patch the KH II image with the memento disc patcher before you burned it?

Update on my situation. I burned a copy of Final Fantasy XII (US NTSC). Worked perfectly . Could it be that my copy of Kingdom Hearts II is Japanese. Does the region matter at this point? Just wondering.

I'll do more tests. Great work guys, this Free Vast project is amazing.

I'd like to know that too, but one thing I do know is that the UK version of Kingdom Hearts II (SLES_541.14) works fine with ESR. So either it is region specific, or there's something wrong either with your setup or your disc preparation.

The bug why it sometimes hang on recognizing the Start-ELF ist most likely due to the ";1" after the filename.
If it isn't present, it won't boot I think.

That is the SYSTEM.CNF file from the disc.

@Shapyi:
Out of curiosity I decided to test the japanese version (SLPM_662.33) of "Kingdom Hearts II" myself, and it works perfectly here, launched through ESR (dvdv direct elf) on my unmodded PAL v10 PS2, after booting uLE v4.16 using FreeMcBoot v1.0 with RUNME.ELF replaced by ffgriever's 1.1a.

Something must be wrong at your end, either with the game disc itself, the ISO you burned onto it, or the setup used to launch it.

Best regards: dlanor

Klonoa NTSC-U= incompatible (glitched music and voices)

Samurai Warriors: Extreme Legends NTSC-U= incompatibe (BSOD, ESR doesn't even show the colors)

Used:

*PAL PS2 V7
*Free MC Boot Version 1.4 (with normal DVDELF)
*Memento Disc Patcher Version that was included with MementoFW_11
*Fujifilm DVD-R

I am going to test Warriors Orichi soon, this is another of KOEI game which has the same engine as samurai warriors series. The fact that ESR doesn't even show the colors, any idea what it could mean ffgriever?

@dlanor

I guess my PS2 is just old (I got it at launch). It works now for some strange reason. It might have had trouble reading the disc before. Anyway, thank you for the help
