I've been playing the US version for a few hours now via HDL 0.8b with no modes and it works fine.

Also, for those who prefer JP voices and NO censorship of blood in the cinematics, you can replace the X3.10, X3.11, X3.12, X3.13 files on the American DVD ISO with the ones from the JP ISO. Simply replace and rebuild with an ISO editor (I used UltraISO). DO NOT REPLACE X3.00, X3.01, or X3.02!! These are the DATA files.

All of the game text will still be in English, except for missing subtitles in the cinematic scenes. Most of the true cinematic scenes don't have much dialogue anyway--but in case, just keep a copy of the original US version in case you don't understand something.

Anyway, For those who don't know, all of the blood was edited out of the US release, and the result is kind of... like.... "what? Isn't there supposed to be some blood?" It's just awkward, and it takes away from the whole emotion of the various scenes.

    Everyone enjoy uncensored Xenosaga

Are the rest of the games censored? I've never played any, but I'm curious.

Strange Ep1 had tones of blood in some scenes.

I've ordered it though, so I might replace the files when I get it.

Yeah, Ep 1 had blood. There wasn't much opportunity in Ep 2 to have any censorship. Hope the 3rd one is gory!!!

    What about disc 2?

The files are 3.20-3.23, do we replace those?

Yeah I want to know about Disc 2 as well. Also are you replacing the files on the Japanese ISO or replacing those files on the US ISO. I can't tell. My guess is that you are putting X3.1 and so forth onto the Japanese game's ISO. That way you see English text, but hear japanese voices, but I could be mistaken in this since those files could very well be "voices" and then I'd have to replace them onto the English Version. Thanks.
