The game crashes when selecting any game from the menu but the art gallery works.
I tried all modes with HD Loader 0.6d and also checked the contents of the disc and there is no sign of multiple ELFs.
Its also interesting to note that the game supports the 'OFFICIAL SONY HDD' so maybe thats the reason why its not working properly with HD Loader.

i'm guessing you tried it without shrinking it as i went ahead and extracted the iso and remade it from being 4gb to 850mb (false LBA) but for some odd reason it won't load to the menu in any of the modes.
all i get is the hdd light blinking twice and then the light on the controller goes off and nothing more.

I initially shrinked it down to 850MB and tested it and it worked up to the menu.
I thought the shrinking may have caused the problem so I transferred the full iso to HD and it locks up in the same place.

nope i have a problem with it as well as burning it to disc and playing it from there, that doesnt work either. then again i'm using swap so maybe theres protection that its not passing.
it looks like it's trying to access the HD since the game uses the HD (i guess from whats being said here) and it cant since it's not formatted for official use. even when running the game from DVDR i still see it trying to be accessed. maybe if i took out the HD.......

Yeah, that's probably why it's crashing. because f th e unnoficial HD. that's interesting. No way this will ever show up on a US game, but it's an excellent HDLOADER protection!

It loads off DVD-R and plays fine if I remove the HD.
As I said earlier, the game OFFICIALLY supports the Sony HD. I have read it on various Japanese sites and there are HDD drivers on the disc.

do you think there will ever be a way to make it play from the hard drive? have any other games like this been patched?

update:
loaded the game w/o HD using swap. loaded all the way up to menu and then after that the game goes to black screen and hangs.

Any of you guys which stripped down the iso, tried to mess with SYSTEM.CNF file?
What if we remove the line "HDDUNITPOWER = NICHDD" from it?
I guess that's the "protection".
Best wishes,
