However, you need to unlock it (one of the conditions requires 15-hour gameplay).

The only problem that i have is that nothing is selectable using the R1 Menu in the Gamegear games. All i see is the background and a border, nothing to choose from.

sonic r still doesn't work for me but oh well. btw, you can enable the japanese soundtrack for sonic cd (as well as japanese everything else) and there's a LOT more unlockable games besides the vectormans and streets of rages... http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gen...p?board=928772

The game is fully working under HDLoader .7c, PS2 v7, Messiah2 modchip (clone or whatnot).

Also for those who are wondering about the Japanese OST in Sonic CD:

Just so other people can try this out. Here is my method for the hack.

First of all you need ISOBuster, you can find it on the net.
You need a Hex Editor, I prefer Hex Workshop.

If you are dumping your own image you need to get DVD Decrypter. Im sure you can find that ont he net somewhere.

Alright, first of all dump your image using ISO read mode in DVD Decrypter. Now you should have an image of your DVD somewhere on your Hard Drive.

Open up your shiny new ISO image in ISOBuster. You should see the table of contents in the right hand window. There should be a file called S1.DAT. Right Click on that file and left click on Extract S1.DAT. Save it to a place you can locate it easily.

Ok, now you need to open up S1.DAT in Hex Workshop. Do an find (ctrl-F) for BGM. You should now see BGM_US and BGM_JP on the right hand side of the program. Change the US to JP, then hit F3 on your keyboard to jump to the next BGM and change that from JP to US. Hit F3 once more and change it from US to JP, then change the BGM next to it from JP to US. Save the file and quit.

Open up Apache 2 and open up your DVD ISO image you ripped S1.DAT from. Now you need to right-click on S1.DAT and choose the option "Update Selected File" now you are replacing the old S1.DAT with your new hacked one. After this, just go to file, then save-as bin/cue.

Now you have a new bin/cue image of your DVD Image. Now all you need to do is burn it to DVD or upload it to your PS2 Hard Drive if you use HDLoader. If you did everything correctly you will have Japanese In-Game music. Congrats and Enjoy!

New question: Once this game starts working on the PS2 HDD, could there be an option in HDLoader that forces the BIOS region code to Japanese or English for games like this?

It's working with HDL 0.7c, i haven't played a long time but so far so good.
