Shadow Hearts 2: Covenant -- Freezing with HD Loader?
Shadow Hearts 2: Covenant -- Freezing with HD Loader? –

I'm trying to get Shadow Hearts 2 to work with HD Loader but I'm having some problems...
The game loads up fine and plays through the introduction perfectly, but soon after I get to the world map (eg. the actual start of the game), as soon as I choose ANY option, the game immediately freezes.
Does anybody else have this problem?
I'm tried enabling mode 3 on HD Loader but it didn't help at all.

hmm go though all the compatiblity settings, I remeber Shadow Hearts needed mode 1 enabled or it would freeze at specific points or if you did some stuff too fast. I'll guess this is probably the same thing.

Anybody figure out a solution to this yet?

I suspect this problem is due to some programming method or lib specific to this game
developer, as the original "Shadow Hearts" game also has a similar freezing problem.
As for the reasons for it, there are many possibilities, most of which we have no way
of influencing either way, but one possible reason may get fixed eventually.
A 'freezing' program is usually one that gets stuck in an infinite loop of some kind,
and one obvious way to do that is to make a timed delay with a stopped timer.
Strange as it may sound, that is what I hope is happening here...
If the program performs the delay by reading the system clock, and waiting for it
to change by an amount matching the wanted delay, then this may become an
eternal loop due to the bug in system clock access with HDLoader. When and
if that bug is patched we can expect most 'freezing' games to work with HDLoader
and that may well include both the original "Shadow Hearts" and its sequel.
You'll find more on this subject in the thread entitled "HD Loader Timestamp Problem".
Best regards: dlanor

unforunatley even with the timestamp fix it still gets random freezes, ive tried all modes, guess we'll have to play it from dvd for now.

Could be that the "blackscreen of death" is related to the SWBF problem

Would such a fix as that described in that topic work in this case? I dunno...it's more effort than I'd be willing to put into playing this particular game, but might be worth investigating to solve future problems.

i dont think so the game fully loads but has random lockups swbf just had black screen when loaded and theirs no other elfs on the discs anyway.

Yeah, this game acts really weird.. no matter what modes you pick, it'll freeze at COMPLETELY random times.. meaning I can play for 2 minutes, have it freeze somewhere, then reboot the game (and not change anything), start playing again and it'll freeze somewhere else. Completely random =( too bad cause I really wanted this game too
