Hi
Im trying to make the seagate 160 gb (st3160812a) run in my ps2 version 9 or 10
i set the jumper to master and try to boot but the crystal chip stay at the logo crystal .....
does this hdd should work ? I have the version 29 of the frimware

You should have a special partition on your disk to make CC use this disk...

when i start the ps2 i see the cristal chip logo but stay there .... im unable to load the ulauch utils

i have that exact drive and have been using it for over 2 years with no probs. No idea bout the crystal chip though, i have a v4 with duo2 mod but just use the memory card exploit. Have you tested the hdd in a pc to see if it works?

Well, in CC there should be an option to turn on the HDD on startup. Turn it off. Then run LaunchELF, either from CD, MC or mass. In Launchelf create a partition and here you go. You can now turn that option back.
