I tried HDAdvance, HDLoader and USBAdvance, and none could backup PS1 games, so then I tried WinHIIP, and it worked! Well, sort of. Thing is, it backs up at .5 Mb/s. Am I wasting my time or should I be patient and will it actually work?

No, it won't work. The only way to play a PS1 backup is to boot its CD.
Hoi!
Since the IO-Processor, that is used as the the main Prosessor in PS1
mode, is also the one controlling the HDD it is impossible. The PS2 can either
run as a PS1 or run the HDD, not both at the same time :-(

Unless someone ports a PC PS1 emulator to PS2 (which I'm certainly not gonna do).
Actually, Sony developed a software which works like HD Loader for PS2. It makes PS1 games run on a PS2 out of the HDD and starts just like PlayOnline viewer (FFXI, out of the browser 2.00) and has a PS1 game iso inside of it's partition. I imagine it does patch the game before starting it, pretty much like HDL does with PS2 games.
Since it's a original software from Sony, it's encrypted and DNAS protected.
Edit: Ah I forgot to mention... In 2003 when HD-Loader released it did misteriously vanish from the PSBBN download page (Konami Channel) .... LMAO

Do you still have it on your hdd?
Yes, Bishi Bashi Special 3, downloaded from Konami Channel at PSBBN in 2003...
Oh I forgot to mention I did rip the ISO inside the partition as it is mountable with FTP or with uLAUNCHELF and transfered all the files to my PC HDD, figured out the format used, which has a out of offset ISO which is easily fixable. I didn't try modding the game partition as if I screw up it's unreplaceable but I have backups of all the files inside and I also did make a raw dump (sectors) of the partition with WinHEX, which contain the browser 2.0 headers, icon and descriptions (which are not present on just a dump of the files inside of the partition).
Since the ISO worked on a PS1 emulator and also on a real PS1, I suppose a properly formated iso will work with the PS2 software...
And again SONY taking it out right after HDLoader released does smell fishy, don't you agree ?
