My EASY iso shrinking guide

This took me a long time to understand for some reason so i decided to make a "tutorial" for others to use. Enjoy

1. Get your iso on your PC (from your hdd or wherever)
2. Mount the iso with Daemon Tools
3. Launch Isobuster and right-click the little red rectangle that says ISO
4. Go to Directory tree and file information
5. Go to List tree-info (in txt file)
6. Now click LBA, Relative Path
7. Save the new filelist wherever you put your iso.
8.Open the filelist file in excel (or word by putting in a table) and sort it ascending on the LBA number. Copy the newly sorted info back to the filelist.txt. (The sorted filelist.txt is your guide on rebuilding the iso file structure in the proper order).
9. If you mounted your iso properly you can go to my computer and see the "game" in the "drive"
10. Now go into the "drive" that holds your game and you will see some folders and stuff
11. Now when you find out what files cannot be used on the hdd (like online files, demos, dummy files, etc.) go to notepad and create files with one space in them click Save as
12. When you go to save the file change the "Save as Type" box to "All Files"
13. Save the file with the name and extension of the file to be replaced.
14. So in the box before you press save it should say whatever the real file says.
15. Now that you have ALL of the files you are going to replace its time to rebuild the iso.
16. Now in My Computer go to the drive and put in everything but ones you replaced strictly following the order in your sorted filelist.txt. You can drag and arrange the files in cdgenPS2 once the files are in the gui.
17. After everything is in there put in the last file
18. Make sure you DID NOT put the files you want to replace in there
19. Click VOL and name it whatever it says when you see it in My Computer. Ex: UNDERGROUND2, or SSX3
20. Now click IMG and select "ISO Files" in the "Save as Type" box
21. Name it what you want and save it wherever
22. Put it on your HDD and enjoy!

There is no need to mount the ISO just open it with ISOBuster.

You should know the dummy file when you see it. It will be named something like pad0 or pad1. there are definately others but i have not seen them yet. i'll let you know what they are

this is a great thread goodeguy. i'm gonna try it. i hope it works well. I want shrink some of these 4 gig games down to. Is there other good threads here about shrinking.

Identifying a Dummy File or Other Safe Files To Remove

A Dummy file is a file that just fills space, usually used to push data to the outside rim of the dvd to read faster. You will need to search the files and folders you extracted for file names such as....

DUMMY.***
PADDING.PAD
PAD_*.DAT


and replace them with 0 byte files of the same name by creating a .txt file and renaming it and it's file extension (.txt) to the name of the dummy file you are replacing.

Some games like Jak III have large language files that you can safely replace. like these...

VAGWAD.FRE
VAGWAD.GER
VAGWAD.ITA
VAGWAD.SPA


So basically try to just replace the dummy files and/or the language files to save space. I will try to keep a list of Shrinkable Games and the files that were replaced to help everyone follow in others footsteps.
