Does it work?
No! I've tried both the retail HD Loader as well as the patched HD Loader with absolutely no luck with any mode settings. I have both a Crystal Chip modded PS2 & a Matrix Infinity modded console with all firmware updated. I've used all combinations available to try the game from my Maxtor HDD but the game appears to be totally incompatable. This really shocked me because NBA 2K6 works flawlessly for me with mode3 enabled. I guess we can chalk this one up to Sony. I have the official DVD game in which I tried to install for playing with no luck. I tried both of the above mentioned installs(patched & retail) but the games doesn't appear to work from an HDD. Maybe someone here can find a patch or something becasue this really blows. I play all my games from the HDD to save on my lasers but I sure hope I don't have to use this game from the disc tray drive.
ok i got a fix... works prefect you got to edit the cnf file rename to
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SLUS_212.35;1
VER = 1.01
VMODE = NTSC
HDDUNITPOWER = NIC
ENJOY!!!!!!!
ps figured this out myself!!!!!![]()

Are you sure this is working WITHOUT any freezing or playing problems from the HDD? You are also talking about editing this from the game disc itself,right? I'm not used to editing game files much so I just won't clarification before doing anything stupid. Thanks! Edit: I have popped the game in the PC to check it out. I have a CNF folder & not just a .CNF file. The contents of this folder is 3 files(DIAL_SPD,ICON.SYS,& SYS.NET.ICO) so I don't know what exactly to do here. I do know that most of the time you have the above mentioned units from your post available for editing but I don't see those options from my game disc. The SLUS file is available after opening the initial game file & not in the .CNF folder. Do I just need to place the information you provided into the .CNF folder? Thanks! If you don't feel the need to post the contents here in this thread then you can PM the details on how this might work for me.Originally Posted by freeb0y

its the system.cnf file. yep no freezing.... playing off hard drive
make a iso image(i use DVD Decrypter) on your pc
then extract the system.cnf file with ultraISO
open the system.cnf file with notepad and edit it with that.
then reinject the the file with ultraISO, save,copy mlb2k6 to hd and enjoy!!!

Great Job! It now works with mode 3! How did you figure this out, and what does the HDDUNITPOWER command do? Wonder if this idea would work with other incompatible games....Originally Posted by freeb0y

Thanks! I assume I can use IsoBuster instead of UltraISO to do the job,right? I have IsoBuster but not UltraISO. I have copied the game image already to my PC HD when I bought the game for backup purposes so I already have that done. I don't know much about UltraISO so hopefully I can use IsoBuster to reinject the file for copying to HD instead of UltraISO. Thanks again for the information.Originally Posted by freeb0y
What did the original cnf file look like? Was it referencing to a different elf file or did it not have the hddunitpower line?
I don't have the game, but I'm just curious.
The original file looked like this:
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SLUS_212.35;2
VER = 1.03
VMODE = NTSC
No Hdd line and a few changed numbers above....hmmmm
UltraISO only supports files up to 300mb for the trial version which is what I was really only interested in having. I wasn't able to do anything to the ISO file after editiing the SYSTEM.CNF file due to the limits. I don't know if I can do anything to this ISO with IsoBuster but I'll see what I can do. Thanks!
